My friend Andrea McNabb is battling adreanal cancer. I'm shaving my head to raise funds so that she can make memories with her family.
Wellington
I first met my friend Andrea 'Nabs' McNabb in 2001 when we joined the airforce together she was a young mum of three kids and was forced to live with another 80+ "kids" on the recruit course. And despite that whole experience she still went on to have another three kids with her lovely hubby Rob.
Nabs has terminal cancer, she is fighting hard and about to go through her second round of chemo to buy her more time with her family. She's tough. She is showing chemo who the boss is and has already shaved her hair before the poison takes it. It's only hair right? That's what everyone says. So I want to show her that I believe that, I'm shaving my hair off too!
Hair is not important, family and friends are what really matter. I've been here before with my father and every extra minute you can spend with your loved one is the most important thing. Memories are important and I want to help Nabs make as many memories with her beautiful family as she can. Please help me help her!
The money raised here will go directly to Andrea to use for her family holiday in Rarotonga (where she's from) with such a big family and now with grandchildren in tow as well this is an expensive exercise. She has already raised some funds herself but this extra will help with accommodation, transport, food and hopefully some family activities.
In addition to all of this I plan to donate my hair to be made into real hair wigs.
Nabs is part of my Air Force family. We joined the RNZAF together just over 20 years ago.
The money raised here will go to Andrea's family. They intend to go to Rarotonga (where she is from) and they will be able to make the best memories for her Mum, husband, children and grandchildren.
THE HAIR IS GONE!! 26 September 2021
Hi everyone. I got sick of waiting for lockdown to be over, so I ordered some clippers online and convinced Phil to step in as my stylist.
The original plan was for Anau McNabb to do the shave but we had to settle for a virtual catch up, and a few of our recruit course mates joined in to support.
The plaits are now all bagged up and waiting to be sent of to sustainable salons - hopefully they can be part of a wig for someone who needs one.
