Help us ease the financial strain while our daughter MeCayla battles a rare cancer with courage and hope for her future.
Auckland
At just 17 years old, our daughter MeCayla is facing the biggest fight of her life after being diagnosed with a rare cancer, CIC-rearranged sarcoma. Despite everything, she continues to dream about her future, studying criminal law or criminology, enjoying time with her best friends Jade and Astha, and cuddling her beloved Jack Russell, Frikkie.
Since her diagnosis, my wife has had to leave her job to care for MeCayla full-time, and while we manage on one income, it has been a real struggle. The journey ahead includes 14 cycles of chemotherapy and two major surgeries scheduled for October 21st.
MeCayla has already shown incredible strength: the cancer that had spread to her lungs and lymph nodes has completely cleared. Now we want to give her the best chance possible to beat this.
Every donation, big or small, will help us cover the financial burden of treatment, travel, and daily life while we focus on what matters most, helping MeCayla heal. Your support means the world to us.
We are MeCayla’s proud parents, standing beside her with love and strength as she bravely faces her cancer journey.
Funds will help with hospital travel, medical costs, and living expenses while we rely on one income. They’ll also go toward supporting MeCayla directly, making sure she has what she needs to stay comfortable, positive, and focused on recovery.
chemo completion! 16 February 2026
My beautiful daughter, Mecayla, has finished chemotherapy! After months of treatments, she’s walking without crutches—months ahead of what her physio expected—and can’t wait to get back to the gym. Her strength and determination amaze me every day.
She celebrated her 18th birthday on January 25th with laughter and love, and also received the incredible news that she’s been accepted to study law at university, as well as into a Certificate of University Preparation program to help her get ready. Watching her chase her dreams despite everything she’s been through fills me with pride.
We are now waiting for her end-of-treatment scans, hopeful and confident, before she begins radiation around the end of March or April.
The financial strain of this journey has been tough. We’ve applied for government support but don’t qualify because my husband’s salary is “too high,” even though he alone supports our household while carrying the weight of Mecayla’s recovery.
Every bit of support helps us focus on her healing and her future. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has helped us and to those who choose to now—your generosity means the world.
