MeCayla’s Fight

  • chemo completion!

      16 February 2026

My beautiful daughter, Mecayla, has finished chemotherapy! After months of treatments, she’s walking without crutches—months ahead of what her physio expected—and can’t wait to get back to the gym. Her strength and determination amaze me every day.

She celebrated her 18th birthday on January 25th with laughter and love, and also received the incredible news that she’s been accepted to study law at university, as well as into a Certificate of University Preparation program to help her get ready. Watching her chase her dreams despite everything she’s been through fills me with pride.

We are now waiting for her end-of-treatment scans, hopeful and confident, before she begins radiation around the end of March or April.

The financial strain of this journey has been tough. We’ve applied for government support but don’t qualify because my husband’s salary is “too high,” even though he alone supports our household while carrying the weight of Mecayla’s recovery.

Every bit of support helps us focus on her healing and her future. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who has helped us and to those who choose to now—your generosity means the world.

  • Little update❤️

      1 December 2025

    Hi everyone,

We wanted to share a quick update on our daughter, MeCayla. Since her surgery, she has now completed two cycles of chemotherapy and is doing incredibly well. She has 5 cycles left, and her 10th cycle is scheduled for next week.

With her one-cycle regime (VDC), she had this treatment last week, but the D (doxorubicin) has now been removed from her plan. This is because you can only have a certain lifetime amount, and MeCayla has officially reached that limit. The doctors are happy with how everything is continuing without it.

We also received the wonderful news that her surgery had clear margins, which is a huge relief for all of us.

In terms of recovery, she’s doing really well on her crutches. She still has some difficulty lifting her knee, but that’s completely expected at this stage and part of the normal healing process. Other than that, she’s recovering incredibly well, and we couldn’t be more proud of her strength and determination.

Thank you all again for your continued love and support it means the world to our family. 💕

  • MeCayla’s recovery.

      5 November 2025

We’re so proud of how well our daughter, MeCayla, has been recovering after her surgery. She started walking again last Thursday, and has been doing absolutely amazing! She began with a gutter frame, was supposed to move to a Zimmer frame next, but completely skipped that step and went straight to crutches. She’s already walking fast and really well, which has impressed everyone on her physio team.

MeCayla also asked her physiotherapist if she now, in theory, counts as cancer free since her tumour has been removed. He told her that in theory, yes, it just depends on whether the surgeons managed to get clear margins — something we’re all hopeful for.

She’s home now after two weeks in hospital, healing beautifully, and will be starting chemotherapy again next week — only 7 cycles left, and then some radiation to finish her treatment. We’re so incredibly proud of her strength and determination. 💕

  • surgery

      22 October 2025

    Hi everyone,

We wanted to share an update on our daughter, MeCayla. Her surgery went incredibly well! The surgeons were able to remove the tumor in her thigh, along with the affected lymph nodes, which is such a huge relief for us all.

She now has two incisions — one on her thigh that’s around 25–30cm long, and another on her stomach that’s about 15–20cm long, so they are quite large. She was given an epidural for pain management, which has kept her lower body numb (apart from her feet — she can wiggle those!). It’s helped a lot with the pain in her leg.

Because of the stomach incision, the epidural hasn’t helped much there, so she’s been using a morphine pump for that pain. The downside is that the strong medication has made her quite nauseous and sick, but she’s pushing through it with her usual strength and determination.

The operation lasted around five and a half hours, but everything went smoothly, and her medical team was really happy with how it all went. We’re so proud of how brave and positive she’s been through every part of this journey.

Thank you so much to everyone who’s sent messages, donated, and wished her well. Your love and support mean the world to our family and have helped carry us through these tough weeks. 💕

  • update- halfway done!

      7 October 2025

We wanted to share an update on MeCayla and how she’s doing so far on her treatment journey. She’s officially finished cycle 7 of chemotherapy — which means she’s now halfway through! Only 7 cycles left to go.

It’s been a tough road, but she continues to face everything with incredible strength, courage, and positivity. We’re so proud of how far she’s come.

She’s now taking a short break from chemo to rest and prepare for her upcoming surgery in two weeks. This next stage will be another big step in her treatment, but we’re feeling hopeful and grateful for all the love and support that’s carried her this far.

Thank you to everyone who’s donated, shared, or sent messages — your kindness truly means the world to us. 💕
