Medically induced menopause for the past 7years - enough is enough!

Just a quick update and another chance to express my sincere thanks.

I’ve made it past the three month mark, it has had its moments but I remain eternally grateful for all of the support given by so many kind people!

There have been a few bumps on the road with post op wound infections etc but there are real moments when I continue to be so amazed and very humbled at having had this surgery done (such as not having the constant back ache and dreary fatigue cloud that became my companion!)

I just want to take a moment to particularly thank a few people:

Oliver Lewis from The Press for telling my story so respectfully and including my givealittle page; my surgeon Dr Mike East; Sue Stanley and their team at Oxford Women's Health Centre; My anaesthetist Alistair Gibson; the teams at St George’s Hospital - especially nurses Maddie and Jenny; and last of all but definitely not least, YOU - everyone that donated, sent messages and shared my article and givealittle page tirelessly and got me to this point now!

Thank you really isn’t enough but words do not express the gratitude I have for all of this.

The final bills have arrived and I’m now able to now close this page!

Thank you so very much to all of you for your love, support and many donations. This experience has been both an empowering experience of telling my story and also an extremely humbling experience.

I will hold all of your messages of support forever in my heart and remain eternally ever so grateful to each and everyone of you! x

    Thank you just isn’t enough!

Hi all just a quick message to say that surgery went ahead last week and I got through it ok. Am taking things slow but that was to be expected!

Thank you all for the ongoing love and support. I cannot believe that I have actually had this surgery and it’s all because of you guys!

A special thanks to my surgeon Dr Mike East and his team, to the amazing staff at St George’s Hospital and of course to Oli Lewis at The Press for telling my story in such a gentle and compassionate manner.

Most of all, thank you to YOU for donating to my cause!

  • Surgery is in a few days!

      4 May 2020

Just a quick message to thank all of you for your help and support over the past 5months.

Surgery is happening this coming week and if you feel comfortable, please can you share my page link around. I know it’s a difficult time for many to be able to donate right now but every share of my givealittle page also helps and really does mean so much to me.

Thank you all again, I remain still so humbled by all the support on this page! x

  • Surgery pending Covid-19 lockdown

      4 April 2020

Have received word that at this stage my surgery is still going ahead on the 7th of May but of course it ultimately depends on the governments decision on the length of time the Covid-19 lockdown needs to continue.

      Wonderful news!

  • The best birthday present ever!

      15 February 2020

On my 32nd birthday I received written confirmation that the St George’s hospital trust are going to help with some of the costs associated with my surgery. This last week, because of all of your donations and this extra financial support I have been able to see the surgeon again and started to put the wheels in motion for booking my total hysterectomy.

Surgery has today been confirmed for Thursday 7th of May 2020. Whilst the total bill doesn’t need to be paid for a couple of weeks after the actual surgery, it does appear I’m still needing a small amount of financial aid so, please keep sharing my page and my story - which does truly mean so much to me.

If it wasn’t for all of you donating and sending love and support this would not have been able to be a reality.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you ever so much!

    Keryn

  • Updated goal

      10 January 2020

    Hi all,

Thank you so much for the continued support! I continue to be shocked at the pledges coming in!

Just to let you know I have altered my goal to $23,000 to account for the 5% that givealittle get and realistically I will no doubt need a little funds for after care which I had not thought ahead about.

I still very much hope to donate some funds to Talk Peach Gynaecological Foundation as my aim is also that no woman has to go through these issues alone. If it wasn’t for the support of family and friends and the encouragement received from the likes of Talk Peach I may well not have taken my issues any further and given up the fight!

  • A few questions have come up

      3 January 2020

    Hi all,

Very many thanks for all the donations and lovely messages!

A few people have been asking questions about my treatment options, just wanted to address these directly on the page.

    1. Can the Canterbury Charity Hospital help do your surgery?

    - Dr East said no, they are likely not equipped for my particular procedure

    2. Why don’t you wait for the public system to operate?

    - I can’t even get seen by the public system, I don’t know how much longer their case loads are shut to non-Acute cases and I don’t think I’ll find a public gynaecologist that has the same understanding of Adenomyosis as the surgeon I’ve found does. Also, the longer I’m on these hormones the longer I’m putting myself at further unknown risks as these medicines have always in the past been used as a short term treatment.... I have been on them 7years.

  • Thank you to you all for your donations!

      23 December 2019

Thank you all so much for your donations. Every dollar counts and I am very humbled to see how much has been donated so far!

As it’s close to Christmas I haven’t been sharing the page quite so much, this is intentional as there are already enough financial restraints on people at this time of year.

My story will be featuring in an article published by The Press sometime over the next week or so around issues accessing healthcare in Canterbury. Once this is published I will begin sharing my page link more often.

In the mean time: live, laugh, and love! Merry Christmas all xxx
