Fundraising for Meg, Ryan, and Hattie
Normanby, Dunedin
We know that we had a fundraiser last year but the sad truth is that we have hit a wall.As you’ll remember,Meg was seriously injured at work with lasting effect:cauda equina syndrome and a hernia. She was retrospectively denied disability coverage by ACC claiming that her condition is degenerative and not an injury, which is at odds with an orthopaedic surgeon.Meg remains waitlisted for a nerve conduction study for doctors to take next steps.
Meg was unable to return to work–she tried, and broke down–and so was medically retired. She has been applying for jobs but it is a very inhospitable job market and she has to explain why she is not in her prior position. We make too much money for her to claim the jobseeker benefit and not enough to live;we are still paying down a large power bill from when Meg was at home over last winter. If Meg can get a job, she can return to asynchronous online study and get out of the blind alley.
On top of everything else, our car was side-swiped in a parking lot, breaking a mirror, and the driver did not leave details. We borrowed money to service the car at a dealership (this is necessary for our extended warranty) and they can’t pass the car’s warrant of fitness until we get the mirror fixed.
For all of these reasons and more we’re throwing a plea out to social media.Sorry to bother. We wouldn’t be asking if we could see a way out of our situation. We know that lots of people are doing it tough right now.
