Help RODNEY BELL take the incredible performance piece MEREMERE to 8 Centres across New Zealand.
Nationwide
We are about to take MEREMERE on the road across 8 Centres where we will perform the show 20 times to audiences from Otaki, across the South Island in August and to several destinations in the north later in the year in October. The tour includes 6 shows for kids and 2 disability awareness workshops held in Palmerston North and Christchurch and a relaxed performance to encourage audience members who have neural difference.
Whilst we are extremely grateful to CNZ, Christchurch Arts Festival and Touch Compass dance trust for helping fund this extensive tour we are still short by $10,000 and are looking to raise these funds over the next few months to make this tour possible. This is where you can help. Any donation small or large will go towards making this tour a success and enable that this beautiful work can be made available to audiences across New Zealand.
MEREMERE is Performed by critically acclaimed integrated dancer and performer, Rodney Bell | Ngāti Maniapoto. Meremere merges spoken word, music, dance and multimedia design to tell its story.
‘Meremere is a complex work of art where design, AV and lighting play as significant a role as story-telling, music and dance.’ NZ Herald, October 2016
This is Rodney’s story – from a childhood spent in Te Kuititanga to scaling the heights of an artistic career to a sudden change in circumstances which had him living rough on the streets of San Francisco. Meremere explores the human response to the ebbs and flows of fortune, the transformative journey to inner strength and peace, and the immutable call of home.
‘This autobiographical, multi-disciplinary and life-affirming survival story drew the cheering opening night audience to its feet.’ Dominion Post, June 23, 2018
Uplifting, surprising, intimate and incredibly engaging - this powerful performance features live music from the exceptional Eden Mulholland as well a mesmerising multimedia collaboration from Malia Johnston, Rowan Pierce and Movement of the Human. Bianca Hyslop is our special guest Dancer and Tui Matira Ranipiri Ransfield is our cultural advisor on the road.
Meremere premiered to rave reviews in 2016 and has won Rodney the 2017 Arts Access Artistic Achievement Award, and the 2016 Attitude Artistic Achievement Award. In the 2018 Wellington Theatre Awards, Rodney won The Grant Tilly Actor of the Year for Meremere, Eden won Sound Designer of the Year For Meremere and Rushes and Malia won Director of the Year for both productions.
‘Meremere is a small but beautifully formed production that takes us on a journey of undiminished hope and wonder’ Theatreview, June 23, 2018
