My friend Amelia has recently been diagnosed with cancer and we want to help fundraise for her wedding.
Auckland
My friend Amelia was recently diagnosed with cancer. One of the kindest and most genuine people I know, I want to help fundraise for her wedding.
One way I can help support is through using my platform as a musician to throw a fundraiser show on February 8th in Amelia’s backyard (Onehunga). Thankfully I have some amazing friends who are also generously gifting their talents.

I’ve been privileged to know Amelia since 2017 where both of us were involved in the uni prep course at AUT. We ended up working together on several iterations of the program, becoming good mates in the process, reveling in our shared Cook Island heritage.
The money will be used to support Mia and her fiancé help cover the costs for their wedding.
Dismissed from Oncology 9 October 2025
Hi everybody,
Thought I’d share the good news. After finishing chemotherapy and then spending a few nights in hospital - we were able to put a rush on an updated MRI and biopsy. The results from this showed the rectal tumour responded well to treatment and is shrinking in size. There is also no active cancer cells! Since the beginning of September, I had my final visit to oncology and have since been released. My care now sits under gastroenterology and the surgical team. I am now under careful monitoring, with needing to updated CT scans every once in a while. I am accessing cancer rehabilitation through physiotherapy and am still seeking guidance from a psychologist to process the journey. The downside though is the effects on my pelvic region (reduced ovarian function) so am still under endocrinology and hoping to start hormonal treatment very soon. I’ve gone to warriors games, had a trip to hobbiton and been getting back to social events like birthdays, baby showers and dance showcases. I am slowly returning to full work capacity - it’s a busy month Shocktober. Not that I never stopped working, but am starting to return to the office and my work in the community.
Till the next update, Mia.
