After a major crash in his Toyota 86 Michael now has a huge challenge to continue his championship, and motorsport aspirations.
Bay of Plenty
On the 6th of November 21-year old Michael Scott was racing his Toyota 86 at Pukekohe race track. During his final race of the weekend a freak and spectacular accident occurred where his left front wheel made contact with another car. This caused his car to flip onto its roof and slide across the track before hitting the sand trap where Michael's car began to barrel roll. The car came to a stop after being catapulted over the safety fence and finally landed in pit lane. After three minutes of silence Michael emerged from the ruined car to give the crowd a thumbs up. He was not seriously hurt, only receiving a concussion. But now he is faced with a large bill to fix his car.
Michael has been racing since he was 11 years old and after making his way up from Go Karts, to racing in the Formula First and Formula Ford in both New Zealand and Australia, Toyota Racing Series and now the Toyota 86. Michael won the Formula Ford Championship last season giving him the opportunity to compete in a shoot-out in America in early-December. The winner of the shoot-out will earn a $200,000 scholarship to compete in the 2017 Cooper Tyres USF2000 Championship powered by Mazda. Along with this he competed in the 86's last season thanks to a scholarship through the CareVets team, and came 4th in the series. This season he was set to do even better but he is now faced with a large number of costly repairs that need to be done before his next race meeting on the 9th-11th of December at Taupo. We are therefore asking for support to get the car back up and running and to get Michael back on the track. Any donations would be greatly appreciated.
Any donors who give over $50 will get their name printed on the car to show our appreciation for your help in getting Michael back on the track.
I am involved because I believe that Michael can go far with his motorsport he just needs a little bit of help along the way. He is an excellent driver and this crash was a major setback to him achieving his motorsport dreams.
