We're volunteering for 'Home for AIDS Orphans' building new homes, we hope to make a solid donation to fund building the new school

International

Steve and I quit our jobs and are off on an adventure!

We stumbled across "Home for AIDS Orphans" in Mwandi, Zambia, and their project building traditional mud huts (heaps up our alley)

We decided a month volunteering would be awesome to meet lovely people and offer our help in a place we wouldn't normally get the chance.

It's a fantastic organisation, our part is building / repairing much needed housing for the villagers. Their homes are predominantly mud and stick huts with grass roofs. We'll help build new homes with iron roofs to survive the rainy seasons.

The NGO has been building a school (currently up to grade two ) eventually catering to students up to grade 7. They rely on donations to make this possible and we're hoping we can make a big contribution with our donation and your help :D

There is a constant need for sponsors to get students through university a cost of only $1200 USD - $1500 USD a year for all course and boarding costs etc. Thats about $45 NZD /AUD a week, direct to a person who is so eager to learn and make change! Easy as for a flat or a group of friends to sponsor and invest in a community that deserves the best chance to help their own people, family and friends.

Check out their Facebook and webpage:

If you're keen on building mud huts, can offer skills as a nurse, doctor, or teacher you'd be more than welcome.

We hope you can help us make some changes in Mwandi, even a dollar would be ace! most families live off a dollar day!

we've got a separate bank account running for donations as taking cash is the best method without paying large transfer fees.

If you want to sponsor a student you should visit the web pages and message paula.winland@gmail.com for more information

We're off to Zambia volunteering for 'Home for AIDS Orphans' housing project for a month! The people in the village mostly live in mud huts with grass roofs. Home for AIDS Orphans and it's volunteers assist building much needed homes with iron roofs.

Use of funds

All of the funds we raise will go to 'Home for AIDS Orphans' - to assist with building additional classrooms, paying the teachers, and providing supplies for the students. Any amount on top of our donations would be awesome!!

Mike and Steve volunteer in Zambia  20 December 2019

We didn't realise this page had an end date. Whoopsies, but givealittle are letting us run for a bit longer.

We've just finished our first african mud hut for an 89 year old man and 4 kids, his face was priceless when he got the lock and key to the front door.

The second hut is for a widower and her children. We'd love to see this hut nearly finished before we go.

In addition to the mud hut building we got to help put down a new concrete floor at the school. Now it will be ready for grade 2 to open for the first time next year.

We're loving it here, even though its 31 degrees constantly, and we haven't worked this hard in a long time.

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so generously already, it really goes a long way here!
