After battling CF and undergoing a lung transplant, Mike finally has the opportunity to dream...this is Project Pontiac!
Waikato
This is my amazing hubby Mike! All of Mike's life he has battled cystic fibrosis. We live together with our two children Hunter (6) and Grace (4).
2 years ago we were very fortunate that Mike was able to receive a double lung transplant. What an amazing gift from another family to ours!
Before Mike's transplant, His life expectancy wasn't looking good. After already losing two brothers, a sister and a cousin to CF, he was constantly told his life would be short also. Each infection caused permanent damage to his lungs which only reminded him of watching his family members deteriorate. His fate was grim.
His life constantly revolved around needs. He needed to have repeated hospital stays from the age of 8...He needed to have pic-lines, needles and injections...he needed to quit work to focus on his health...he needed to miss out on normal daily activities to prevent from having a coughing fit...
Just before his transplant we both knew he couldn't carry on much longer, his lungs were failing and the Doctors could do nothing more.
Now that Mike has his new lungs, a whole new world has opened up to him, he now has a future!
Mike has had a Pontiac sitting in the garage for 20 odd years. He has tried to put money and time into it over the years but his failing health and lack of funds from not working (and his refusal to go on the sickness benefit) always brought it to a halt.
This is his dream car...and for once in his life he has the luxury of actually having a dream!
For the first time in his life, Mike has the simple pleasure of 'wants'.
He wants to get this car up and running to bring our family together through family adventures...He wants to fulfil a dream that no longer revolves around getting through one infection to the next. He wants to achieve something that is not related to actually being able to breathe...He want to eventually hand this car onto our son...He wants to watch our son learn to drive in this car...
We have both had time where we couldn't work because of CF. Mike was too sick a lot of the time and needed me to be his full time carer. Because of this we have nothing saved; we have no money to put into the Pontiac. This breaks my heart as I want Mike to fulfil all of his dreams now that he actually has a future.
Mike is always the first to help someone out if they need it. He is the first to put his hand up to volunteer at school events. He is a loyal friend and a hard worker. Mike is selfless, hence why I am setting up this page for him. He deserves something just for him.
Any donations would be greatly appreciated, Help Mike achieve a lifelong goal, a dream, a want, for once in his life...
