When I was cooking up this idea, we had no idea when Mike would be able to get his surgery done. It's been a year today since we went to the GP here to get the ball rolling. He had to have the other one replaced 6 years ago, but that was only a 6 week wait from the first appointment. This has been an entirely different journey. We are so very grateful to have all this love and support. I've never done this kind of fundraising, and it's been amazing to get exactly what we need to quickly get Mike the best recovery plan in place. All of the funds will be spent locally in the Gisborne economy---it's important to us to lift up our day-to-day community here, especially the close to the holidays. Most of the funds will be used for specialty physiotherapy, starting on the 28th (only 5 days post-op!). He will be working with someone who specialises in shoulders AND will help him have a functional shoulder and arm again (they've both been pretty much out of commission since August).
It's a long and at times grueling recovery, but he will be in such amazing shape by the time I go for my "little run" in January. I had originally planned to do it in December, but with the new date for surgery, I will still need to be home, doing caretaker stuff at that point. Mike's new goal is to be able to BBQ for us for Christmas Day. :) Typical.
I just want to say thanks, from the bottom of my everything. Our everything. I have had many moments of massive relief, just knowing that you all are supporting us, and that we are going to get back to "normal" pretty soon.
I will post details about the run as get closer to the time. As usual, I will be doing mile dedications, and any cause/prayer/wish is up for my utter and complete focus during your mile (or km if you prefer).
Big hugs and love,
Amanda, Mike, Iris and Harry
P.s. you know our "normal" is not so normal--but we have a lot of fun and I can't wait to boogie with my husband again!
