Running 100km for my Main Squeeze
Mangapapa, Gisborne
As many of you know (or maybe you don't), Mike has been a candidate for right shoulder replacement for several years due to a congenital shoulder dysplasia. He has been off work since September because the shoulder issue became debilitating. Since then, he has worked hard to stay positive (and learn how to do things left handed!) while we waited for the surgical backlog to clear in NZ. We got the great news that he will finally have the much-needed surgery this month. On January 7th, I'm running 100km from Te Karaka to Ōpōtiki to raise funds for Mike's Recovery, as it is congenital and non-ACC. I will also be submitting my route as a Tairāwhiti FKT (Fastest Known Time, but don't worry, it'll be pretty easy to beat!), as a bonus.
This guy is my main squeeze with a huge heart who just wants to get back to living a normal life being a dad with his normal job as a District Nurse.
Recovery therapies, comfy chair, possibly a room A/C unit and clothing for the first few weeks
The Next Leg of the Journey 14 December 2022
We are settling into the new (temporary) normal. Mike continues to get better each day, but the recovery is going to be a lot longer than anticipated due to the complex nature of the surgery. He's getting more energy, so we've been going on walks. He's able to sleep almost 5 hours (!) straight at night, so his happy self is coming back. I'm opening this back up as this is going to be a longer road.
Hope everyone has a bit of relaxation coming up this holiday season. Big hugs from the Roes
