Representing New Zealand at Global Jane Goodall Institute Roots & Shoots Gathering

As a member of the Jane Goodall Institute New Zealand's National Youth Leadership Council I have been selected to attend the Global Roots & Shoots Meeting held at Windsor Castle in July of this year.

The Jane Goodall institute and its youth group, Roots & Shoots, is found all over the world and exists to undertake work on global and local sustainability issues and to inspire and empower people to take action to make the world a better place for animals, people, and the environment. One of the biggest underlying principles is the idea that everybody has a role to play and can make a difference, and hence the institute encourages involvement of everyone in issues that are important to them right from primary school upwards.

This is an event where a handful of global Roots & Shoots youth from across 30 different countries come together to brainstorm and plan ways in which we can make our own countries and the world a better place for animals, people and the environment. From this I will be able to bring back to New Zealand fresh global ideas for projects that align with the Jane Goodall Institute New Zealand's goals. I also hope to be able to gain ideas for more ways in which i can encourage a more global perspective in the young people of New Zealand, and help them to make a difference and feel valued in their own communities.
