Whangarei karate kids have been selected to represent New Zealand at the junior world championships in Spain in October.

Northland

Teurarangi Tana and Cameron Sear have been selected to represent New Zealand at the world championships in Spain starting on 25 October 2017. Their coach, Craig Nordstrand, has been selected as the kumite coach for the team.

People who represent New Zealand in karate get no assistance with the costs of travel and accommodation when representing New Zealand. Teurarangi gets funding when representing Northland in rugby but nothing when representing New Zealand in karate. Coach Craig Nordstrand receives partial funding for the cost of his flight.

Teurarangi, Cameron and clubmates Kingi Tana, Imogen Ear and D'Artagnan Gould have already represented New Zealand at the Oceania Championships last year and self-funded a trip to Croatia earlier this year to help them become competitive on the world stage.
