Three engineers driving across Europe in a crap car to raise money for charity. Amusement guaranteed.
Canterbury
Hi there! We’re team Can We Fix It, or less formally, we’re Duncan, Jono and Scott. This July we’re doing an event called the Mongol Rally. We will drive across 16,000km of the world’s worst roads to get from Western Europe to Mongolia. This isn't enough, so we're doing it in a tiny car - one which is best suited for driving your great aunt to Saturday morning bowls. Breakdowns are expected, and we’re anticipating a serious adventure.
A big part of our adventure is to raise some money for charity. The two charities we’ll be raising money for are Nurse Maude Hospice (NZ) and Cool Earth (International).
Nurse Maude Hospice (NZ)
The Nurse Maude Hospice provides free medical care and support to people with life limiting illnesses and their families throughout the Canterbury region in New Zealand. The goal of their support is to improve the quality of life for all involved throughout this tough time.
A little from Jono: Five years ago, I spent a couple of weeks in the Hospice with my lifelong best friend who had terminal brain tumours at a far too young age. I was blown away by the compassionate care and support which was offered within the hospice. It’s time for us to give back to such a wonderful group of people. Please keep providing your services, it would be hard to overstate how much you provide to so many families.
Cool Earth (International)
Cool Earth protects endangered rainforest by empowering the people who rely on them the most. They empower local communities to protect the rainforest next to their villages. If enough villages link up side by side and protect the local rainforest, then the ring of villages prevents access to rainforest destruction. To date, 900,000+ acres and over 210 million trees have been saved this way.
Want to know more?
In typical millennial fashion, we’ll be documenting our adventure through photos, videos and amusing blog posts. Nurse Maude - Jono has personal ties with this charity after they have worked with people he knows.
Cool Earth - The main charity for the Mongol Rally. An excellent cause to fight for, and a fantastic approach of doing so.
All funds will go towards Nurse Maude and Cool Earth, split equally.
