The Montessori Model United Nations Conference engages children in contemporary issues. Help us send children in 2019

$120 of $16,000 goal
Given by 5 generous donors in around 6 months

Four students would like to go to Rome and participate in the Montessori Model United Nations Conference.

Waikato

As ambassadors of their selected country, students present on topics taken directly from the UN agenda. They will lead and negotiate with peers from around the globe to achieve peaceful resolution to these issues. This is a goal of all Montessori schools and will empower the children with the knowledge that they can make a difference towards a better world.

Maria Montessori intended children's time at school to be focused on supporting the development of the whole child with a sense of social responsibility so that the next generation can make a difference in the world. Maria Montessori was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize three times for her work with women and children.

Included at this conference are;

- Special guests, ranging from Ambassadors to successful entrepreneurs, UN staff and members of the United Nations community.

- Evening events, in order to maximize different cultures' value integration. During the "Cultural Performance Night", the delegates perform difference cultural exhibitions, representing their native or selected country's tradition including music and dancing.

We would also like the students to experience guided educational tours to heritage sites in Rome and Pompeii. It will be the first visit to Europe for the children and there is the opportunity for this to be the most valuable outing of their school years.

Funds will be used for school registration and conference fees, air travel, airport transfers, a tour of Rome and a tour of Pompeii (funds permitting). Any surplus funds will go to students wishing to attend future conferences.

About us

The Waikato Montessori Education Centre is owned and administered by The Golden Beads Charitable Trust. We offer a world-class Montessori education for children aged 3 - 12 years. The classroom is the childrens’ home away from home, it is carefully designed to facilitate the development of independence and a sense of personal empowerment. We allow children to learn for themselves, to learn at their own pace, to cultivate a positive attitude to mistakes, to choose activities for themselves, and to be allowed to repeat actions as often as necessary.

Use of funds

Funds will be used for school registration and conference fees, air travel and airport transfers, a 1 -day tour of Rome, a 1- day tour of Pompeii (funds permitting). Any surplus funds will go to students wishing to attend future conferences.
