Protect and breed Monarch butterflies.
Ranui, Auckland
Native butterflies like the Monarch and Yellow Admiral have reduced in numbers. Non native wasps kill the caterpillars in large numbers. There are a lot less food plants around for the caterpillars. That's just the main challenges.
A friend and I are in our 4th year of breeding butterflies to increase the numbers. We have had great success.
We need a new shade house to protect caterpillars from predators until they transform into butterflies and are released into nature.
Help pay for a new shadehouse. It has been ordered and will be delivered once payment is complete.

4th October they were eggs. 25th October, huge appetites and shedding skin. 11 days. From here on in, the caterpillars will need daily fresh food supply. To keep the cut branches fresh, I cut 2 vertical cuts into the base of the stem or crush the base of the stem using my secateurs. Questions welcome.
