Support Dean’s fight with cancer through access to private medication.
Auckland
A little over a month ago in October 2025 my best friend, my dad Dean was sadly diagnosed with incurable stage 4 cancer in his colon and this has spread to his liver.
As you can imagine, this diagnosis has come as a massive shock to my Dad and our family. Over the past month he has had a barrage of tests and is about to undergo chemotherapy to prolong his life and give his best to kick this.
Unfortunately not all cancer drugs are funded in NZ and the funded drugs available are not the best that he needs. We have seen a private oncologist for a second opinion and have been told that there is a targeted drug available, Vegzelma, and that would work well alongside the publicly-funded chemo. The cost of this treatment is $35,000 every 3 months.
While it won't completely cure Dean's cancer, this drug has shown promise in significantly extending life and improving the quality of life.
Due to the pain and diagnosis he can no longer work, which is going to be financially challenging in itself, so we are hoping to raise some funds to give Dean the best chance and more time to make memories with his family and friends, time that this extra drug will help provide.
Dean is such a kind, funny, caring and happy person, he is a very loved father, grandpa, son, brother, uncle and friend and he's facing the toughest challenge of his life at only 56 years young.
Please donate if you can, share this page to help us reach others who might be able to support,
Every bit counts.
Thank you very much,
Ashley
Dean is my very loved and adored Dad
Every contribution, big or small, will go directly toward the cost of private medication (Vegzelma), transportation and bills/living expenses, helping Dean spend more time with those who love him.
