Please help Mo say thanks and pay it forward to some of the unsung, invisible heroes of Covid19 in NZ.

Auckland

Mo's wish for her 50th birthday is to pay it forward to some of the unsung, invisible heroes of Covid19 in NZ. She has pledged 50 Acts of Kindness so that 50 Essential Workers can be treated to a massage, a pedicure, or a even just a few extras in their weekly shop. Nominated Essential Workers will each receive a Prezzie Card to the value of $50.

Of course Mo would never ask for help with her personal pledge, but she also doesn't want to be showered with presents for her own birthday. So in lieu of any gifts, it would mean the world to her if you would instead support her in spreading the love and help raise the $2,500 it will take to treat 50 Essential Workers.

Imagine if, in true Mo spirit, we could take it even further, smash her pledge out the window and treat even more than her original target of 50 Essential Workers? If we raise more than $2,500 then we will! Think of all the amazing individuals who worked so selflessly to ensure we were safe and were able to still access everything we wanted and needed during lockdown.

If you would like to nominate someone for one of these Acts of Kindness, please email charlotte@charliesangels.co.nz with their details & a quick note about how they helped you/your community out. Think of the carers, cleaners, security guards, bus drivers, nurses, family, friends and co-workers who made your life easier during those crazy months. We would love to hear their stories.

Thank you so much. Please feel free to share the love and pass the details of this page onto others. This page will be taken down October 16th and all funds raised will go towards Mo's 50 Acts of Kindness which will be presented to recipients by the end of the month (31st Oct, 2020)

Some of the nominations for Mo's 50 Acts of Kindness:

Nominee: Various Carers at Youth Horizons

Reason: These wonderful people were the inspiration for this cause! They worked around the clock on the frontline to ensure the health and wellbeing of kids in their care across NZ. They offered their homes and whatever they had to ensure our most vulnerable kids felt safe. They are some of the true heroes of our Covid response in NZ. Their care and kindness was inspirational and captured the true spirit of aroha.

Nominee: Whanapoua Store

Reason: The team at the Whangapoua Store were a godsend for us. Arriving back in the country and forced into quarantine with very few supplies, they made the process of getting our groceries so easy. Despite being ‘high-risk’ (fresh off the plane from India) they were happy to provide a ‘call & collect’ service which we used REGULARLY; and we loved how friendly and welcoming they were to our family.

Nominee: Hoana Makiha.

Reason: Hoana (my mum!) is 66 years of age and despite her vulnerability during Covid, she remained on the frontline at her workplace which is a GP clinic in West Auckland (Wai Health). Although she had essential worker and gold card privileges during lockdown, she still waited in the lines at supermarkets and would let others in front of her as well. She would come home and maintain distance from all of us even after she had showered and sorted herself out. She is dedicated to her mahi and her whanau and this prevailed during lockdown. I don't know anyone more deserving.

Nominee: Helen Vlasich

Reason: I nominate Helen Vlasich, for her work through covid, caring for our elderly. Respect.

Nominated by: Rebecca Williams

_ _

Anna Baudinet

Reason: Anna was amazing throughout lockdown, even post lockdown, giving our circle of friends advice and insight to what was heading our way. With four children, one with a heart issue, she juggles them and working as a GP. She is smart, compassionate and just so good with people. Based in South Auckland, she deserves some appreciation for all she does too.

Nominee: Morgan Sobajna, Waiheke

Reason: Morgan was a legend during lockdown, providing security at the Waiheke Countdown during Level 3 & 4. During these crazy times when people were unsettled Morgan greeted everyone with a warm, friendly smile, sometimes a joke and always a reminder of the importance to sanitize and socially distance. He made queuing to get in the supermarket a far more enjoyable experience.

Nominee: Maggie Wikaira

Reason: Maggie works at Waiheke Budgeting Services. She spent hours sewing masks at the last lockdown as well as working tirelessly as a volunteer and with budgeting services. She's had a tough year herself as well and deserves to be A Gift of Kindness.

Nominated by: Michelle Richards

Nominee: Jan Cowan

Jan is manages a team of Nurses in the Auckland ER department. Her energy and kindness possibly only second to Mo. Earlier this year she was diagnosed with a lung condition, which is ultimately going to make her life shorter. Instead of stopping work when COVID arrived, she demanded she be put to use, so she is in charge of keeping track of and ordering PPE for Auckland Hospital. All this with two young girls and a husband in tow, she is one amazing human.

Nominee: Sally Harte

Sally, one of Mo's sisters, gave up so much of her life and went to live with her mother Betty during the first lockdown, leaving her own kids at home to fend for themselves for 6 weeks. She was still working full-time remotely but deserves this Gift of Kindness for her amazing patience and love and endless cups of tea she made during that time when Betty had no one else to care for her. She didn't hesitate to do the same going into the second lockdown either. We all know that Sal goes above and beyond generously looking after everyone and this act of leaving her own home and kids during uncertain times just demonstrates what an amazing woman she is.

Nominee: The Team at Glenbrae Gardens Rest Home

Reason: I feel like my staff are so deserving as essential workers who really gave it their all through out Covid at our rest homes. It was an incredibly tough and stressful time that's for sure. But because there are so many and it would be hard to single one out, I'd like to nominate my 2 RNs who stepped up and dug deep when we had a couple of Covid potentials. Thankfully they turned out to be negative, however a lot of our care staff freaked out and refused to care for these 2 residents. Our RNs didn't hesitate to get in there and help. I'd also nominate my husband who grabbed the PPE, put it on and went in to care for these residents (he's normally in charge of operations but knew that someone had to do it)
