Raising awareness of the risk for unintended injury to dogs when accompanying mountain bikers.
Bay Of Plenty, Rotorua District
We're a group of mountain bikers regularly using the Whaka Forest who occasionally see distressed dogs trying to keep up with their owners, especially in Summer. Our concerns with dogs' well being prompted us to get more information from a local vet. Bottom line, if you want your beloved dog to survive the ride, there are some key points to consider. We included these points on a poster to raise awareness, and are now seeking financial help to initially cover printing costs. If we collect sufficient funds, we are keen to add some other measures to keep our four legged friends happy and healthy enjoying the forest with their two-legged friends.

Pour It Forward - your donations have helped hydrate trail dogs 15 March 2022
The information signs you helped us produce and place in the Whaka Forest kicked off well, and you may see kids and pausers-by reading them. Thank you! To put our mouths where our money goes, we have dog water drinking bowls in the forest now too that are helping our pets stay well-hydrated. Coverage here:
We hope the larger community and visitors will take your lead and 'give a little' every time they see a bowl. We wanted to keep you updates on this effort and remind you that you are very much appreciated for helping put these efforts in place.
Thank you Vetora for the support, we are pleased to bring our mahi together for our community of animal lovers. We appreciate your top up for us - look out Whaka forest here we (info posters) come! and water bowls are next :)
