Raising funds and awareness for Type 1 Diabetes Research
Nationwide
WHO ARE CHASING A CURE FOR TYPE 1 DIABETES
Chasing a Cure for Type 1 Diabetes began in 2012. In 2011 SCSNZ, a small research group based in Dunedin discovered that the adult stem cells they were growing had the ability to stop the auto immune process that causes type 1 diabetes and other auto immune diseases. Chasing a Cure for Type 1 Diabetes was the project name given to the project and a group of loyal fundraisers and members developed to help raise funds towards running the laboratory for the research.
WHAT IS MOVEMBER
Move-ember is an initiative from the “Chasing a Cure for Type 1 Diabetes” group who are together raising awareness and raising funds for research for Type 1 Diabetes throughout the month of November. Simply commit to a goal of exercise for the month of November and get friends, and family to sponsor you in the efforts to reach your goal! Some of our friends have already committed to running 100KM’s, biking 100 KM’s and walking 100 KM’s.
Since 1988, Spinal Cord Society NZ Inc (SCSNZ) has been working towards finding a cure for spinal cord injury and paralysis. The research laboratory in Dunedin has expertise with adult stem cells. While curing spinal cord injury remains the end goal for SCSNZ, the stem cell research has now diversified to search for treatments for other health conditions and is now focused on finding a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
The funds will go towards running costs for our Laboratory in Dunedin. It costs in the vicinity of $33,000.00
