Mr Gooses terminal liver condition .
Howick, Auckland
On Saturday the 18th, Goose started experiencing seizures like episodes thought to be head tremors. He was admitted to VSA where he stayed overnight under close care.
By Monday the 20th, we saw a neurologist who ran blood tests and other assessments. His liver results came back abnormal.
On Tuesday the 21st, an ultrasound confirmed there were issues with his liver, and we were referred for a surgical consult.
Thursday the 23rd after a consult and CT scan, Goose was diagnosed with a Large extrahepatic portosystemic shunt. Waking up from the scan was extremely tough he experienced multiple seizures so was placed into an induced coma and showed very little brain activity when they tried to awake him. We thought we had lost him. He remained in an induced coma and was transferred to VSA West for intensive monitoring overnight.
Now, Friday the 24th, he pulled through and is awake.
Life saving surgery is now considered extremely high risk. For now, Goose will need daily medication and ongoing care, and the road ahead is uncertain. Goosey is only 16months old so time to make sure he makes the most of his little life.
We are drowning in vet bills.. To date he’s costed over 10k with insurance paying very little due to it technically being a birth defect. Surgery to fix this if we go down this route with the risk is about another $10,000.
Will go towards the vet bills.
