Debbie has lived her life always putting others before herself - it's time we help her back!
Kawerau, Bay Of Plenty
When I first met Debbie in 2009 she was my art teacher, and year 13 Dean at Kawerau College. Students loved her, and she had a habit of adopting strays (people and animals alike). She and her husband Dave took me in during some of the darkest days of my life, and her family quickly became adopted family of my own.
Fast forward to Jan 2024, and I get a call to say Dave was in hospice care, dying of cancer. Dave passed away in April 2024. Only 11 weeks later, her youngest son Steve unexpectedly passed away at home. He was only just in his 40's. He left behind 2 young girls, and 3 cats now living with Debbie.
As if this wasn't enough, one of her beloved pets Molly, an 8yr old bulldog, is now developing a nasty mammary tumor. This dog was her late husband's soul dog, and Debbie can't bare to lose her. Not yet.
Unfortunately, Debbie and Dave spent their retirement funds on cancer treatment, and trying to stay afloat while Dave was sick. He went to work every single day throughout his life, even while undergoing cancer treatment, yet his pension was so small, it meant they had to cancel all of their insurances, and could still barely afford to cover the bare essentials.
Now that Dave is gone, Debbie is left in debt, and is only on a single pension. Molly needs urgent vet treatment to remove her tumor before it becomes too big to do so. Without Molly, I'm not sure how Debbie will continue to cope throughout the day, and I can't bare to see her go through yet another loss.
Please help us!
She is an absolute beautiful soul, and I consider her my mother in every sense of the term.
Vet care for Molly and her other animals first, then outstanding debt after that.
Debbie also has painful retained tooth roots that need removing, left over from a tumor she had removed from her face. Public health care refuses to fund this.
Final update 10 February 2025
Hello everyone. Just one last update to say THANK YOU. The page closes on Friday (the 14th Feb). Today is Debbie's birthday, and without YOUR help to save Molly, I honestly don't know if she would still be here to celebrate it with us. We have managed to raise enough to fully cover Molly's surgery plus a Bravecto flea treatment she had just prior. These donations have saved 2 lives, so thank you. When making this page I was hoping we could raise a few hundred at least to go towards it, but this is insane. I can't say thank you enough.
