Hi, Im Cycling The Lenght of New Zealand , 3000kms in the Tour Aotearoa, A self supported event from Reinga to Bluff.

Canterbury

The Tour Aotearoa http://www.touraotearoa.nz/, is a new event , maybe a one off. 300 people are signed up to ride unassisted through NZ on the given course . We have max 30 days to complete it and it cannot be completed in less than 10 days . Everybody will have a spot tracker , so we can be followed online . We have to stop 6 hours out of every 24 hours . This is the same rules as The Kiwi Brevet , (1200km) http://kiwibrevet.blogspot.co.nz/ of which i have completed two around the top of the south island. Each Individual will decide how they are going to ride , some will stay at accommodation along the way and take it at a comfortable pace , others will camp where they stop , ride 16 plus hours a day and average over 200 kms a day.

More info available at http://www.touraotearoa.nz/

Myself and all other riders can be tracked at https://touraotearoa2016.maprogress.com/

I have lived in Hanmer Springs , for over 7 years , I have developed a huge passion for cycling. I have competed in races all over the country , i really enjoy the long Endurance style races and also the adventure of Brevet events like the Tour Aotearoa.

Hanmer springs is a stunning location for cycling , especially mountain biking, We have superb single track for all levels and the amazing St James cycle way is not far away .The local mtb club and Track network group do a fantastic job of developing and maintaining trails for locals and visitors to enjoy .

Getting funding is always necessary for all this work , and the next project is no different . We want to develop an area where people can develop and learn skills that will enhance their ride out on the trails . The skills area will be a great Hub in Hanmer for people to meet , ride and practice their mountain biking .The area will have North Shore style structures , drop offs, rock gardens , berms and obstacles to navigate and practice on .And the great thing is that the location is right on the edge of the forest , just off Jollies Pass road, with easy access to numerous trails . I hope to raise money to assist in getting this exciting project underway. This mountain bike skills area could cost in the region of $20/30,000.Please note that we do not have any drawn up plans at this stage , the wheels are however rolling and this will happen, and will add to Hanmer Springs overall appeal. Please Contact the mountain bike club at hanmermtb@hotmail.com for more info and developments.

My goal is to raise $10,000. What a kickstarter that would be !!!

Your donation will be gratefully received and be very helpful to the building of this project , which will have a long lasting benefit for the Hanmer Springs area for locals and visitors to enjoy.

Thank you very much

Steve Halligan
