Raising funds for electric component of mum and autistic sons current tandem style bike
Wellington
My beautiful boy loves the outdoors & adventure, as his mum I want to be able to provide him the tools to allow him to live his life to his fullest, giving him the opportunity to enjoy the world around him.
However, this comes with challenges for him being non verbal and unable to communicate, and he has no awareness of hazards, danger etc. He is diagnosed with Autism, Global Developmental Delay, ADHD, Sleep Deprovision Disorder, making every day things difficult to navigate all with their own challenges.
We were lucky enough to be gifted a special secondhand tandem style manual bike (as shown in the photos), where he is able to sit in front of me on the bike for many years to come (his seat having a 80kg weight limit), as he doesn't have the coordination to ride independently.
This bike allows him to ride up front giving him the joy of movement while experiencing his love for outdoors safely, when he is ready he is also able to also pedal himself. He absolute loves going on bike rides and wants to go further but mum doesn't have the energy to bike further afield !
On days with little sleep, pedaling and motivation to take him out can be tough. An electric upgrade would make a huge difference helping us explore more often, further afield, safely, and with less strain.
I'm fundraising $4,550 for the electric component that has been quoted to add on to our current bike. Every contribution brings me closer to giving him more freedom and joy in the outdoors that he deserves.
The electric part of a tandem style bike to allow mum and son to bike further for more adventures on their current bike
