Help raise money to purchase quality, local musical instruments to help give the children of Nelson a really awesome start in loving music!

Nelson / Tasman

The Music Fairy introduces children to the world of music through songs, stories, games, movement and exploration of sound. Studies have repeatedly shown the benefits of music education for children (improved literacy, numeracy, interpersonal skills and self awareness),but sadly, many children are getting all the way to high school with little to no musical education. The Music Fairy aims to change this through quality music education for children from preschool age upwards. Helping our tamariki gain an early advantage in life, and a life long love of music.

Why doesn't she have any instruments?

Well, I hate to break it to you, but the Music Fairy....is not actually a real fairy. I know, it's shocking, but true.

Actually, she is a former high school teacher named Jess who is now a stay at home mum. Surviving on one income is hard enough these days, without having to figure out how to purchase equipment needed to start a new business so that you are no longer living on one income. Sigh, it's a vicious cycle I'm sure you are all familiar with. So, although all the plans are in place, and schools are ready to go, at the moment she only has a handful of maraccas castanets and a guitar belonging to her very trusting husband to take to the preschoolers of Nelson. Weetbix and milk still need purchasing before she runs out to buy any of the really cool instruments which would make this initiative really sizzle!

What will my money be spent on?

Well, depending on how much you donate, your money could be spent on anything from a super awesome bell, to a ukulele, drum or even a mini harp designed for preschoolers. Any money left over after the instruments have been purchased will be spent on a few really cool picture books which teach musical concepts to young children. Either way, your money will have contributed to to making this program incredible, and changing a child's life for the better.

That's great, but does this program have a future?

YES! Yes, it does! If I can get together the right resources to really set this in motion, then in time I hope to provide jobs to other music educators in the Nelson region and help spread the Music Fairy learning far and wide. Think big or go home, I say!

Jessica D'Ath's involvement (page creator)

I am the founder of the Music Fairy and am also going to be the one taking it into preschools and implementing it. So I guess that makes me CEO and President of the Music Fairy, as well as being an actual Fairy in the eyes of preschoolers...which is awesome.
