My Bone Marrow Transplant Story

  • My Final Update Bone Marrow Failed

      28 December 2022

Hello I have now been in hospital for almost 5 months My panic attacks are getting worse and I have no appetite. Everyday my wife brings in food but it is very difficult to eat now.

Specialist said that the infection I got when first Drain put into chest cavity was making me very sick.

But through all this my wife Robyn and myself never doubted that I would be home one day.

3 weeks before Christmas I was given the news that my Bone Marrow had failed which meant no more transfusions. I was given up to 2 weeks to live. We are both devastated as we spent all of our 43 years together totally with only 6 nights apart.

To be continued by my wife.

My beautiful Husband passed away 18th December 8.59pm.

He said I should learn to drive to have

Hi I'm back in Hospital. Have been in various wards Auckland Hospital since 1 July 2022 due to a Haemothorax Bleed left lung. Unfortunately when a drain was put into side chest cavity staphylococcus found its way into my chest at the same time. I now have a permanent drain and the Staphylococcus infection will probably be with me for life. Antibiotics are a regular medication that is now needed to keep infection at bay. But this has made me very sick - no appetite - so now my Bone Marrow Transplant is struggling to work to produce bloods. I have had numerous transfusions. Are now taking anti depressants hopefully to make me eat more and make me mobile. Next update I'm hoping to tell you I'm back home with a good appetite and walking again.

It's been 1 year 10 months since my Bone Marrow Transplant. I'm walking and using Public Transport. My immune system still makes me more susceptible to flu and colds. With Covid 19 I've been very cautious around people especially on buses. During the last year I have had various vaccinations as my immune system is brand new. A car would certainly make my life so much easier to visit Doctors, food shopping etc.
