After my grandma passed away, my dad had a stroke.
Auckland
I recently went home to my home country, the Philippines, to pay my respects to my grandmother, who passed away last 25th of May. In a heartbeat, I used up what's left of my savings and booked the next day flight back home. It was heartbreaking since I was very close to my grandma since I was little. After 4 days, I went back to NZ and was trying to move on. Yesterday, 15th of June, I got a call from my stepmum(in the Phils)telling me that my dad is not answering her calls and texts. My heart suddenly sank and had to call my brother to check up on my dad. My brother was busy at the time but was able to ask my dad's brother-in-law, who was near to my dad's home, to check on him. They found my dad inside his house, naked, staring blankly and unresponsive, as if he was in shock. For some reason, he can't speak so they decided to bring him to the hospital. Did a CT scan and doctor's confirmed he had a stroke. He would've died if he was found later.
My dad just turned 66 years old last month and yesterday was Father's day in the Philippines. He's currently in Chong Hua Hospital in Cebu city inside the Intensive Care Unit.
Just so you know, medical care in the Philippines is very expensive and our medical bills are piling up each day. I'm currently working my butt off to get more hours of work to support my dad but I just spent it all for my grandma's funeral.
When it rains, it pours.
So I'm humbly ask for your help so we can make sure our dad gets the best care.
Medical bills and treatment
Out of ICU 24 June 2025
Dad is out of the ICU at the moment and has been moved to a private room. He's currently under observation and been doing some therapy to reboot his brain and regain his movements independently which is good news. However, the bills still continue to rack up so as long as he's still in the hospital. I pray and hope that we'll be getting more blessings to support him. Once again, thank you for those who supported.
Thank you to the Legazpi family
