My Fur Baby was a Hero

Mr Shawn was my hero, until he was killed by another dog in my own fenced backyard...

Canterbury

Long story short I had a wonderful intelligent pup called Shawn, Shawn was 7 months old and showed great potential to be a huge help for my partners diabetes, alerting him when his glucose levels would drop, so I decided to train him (I have basic qualifications to train), Shawn was doing amazing! He even saved my partners life alerting me when he had a seizure and was choking so I could help him.

Unfortunately a visiting dog at the back of my property jumped over my 5ft fence (using a brick fire pit at neighbours property) and mauled my wonderful Shawn, the damage was to bad and wee Shawn didn’t make it through surgery. We as a family are grieving hugely. The owner provided $700.00 towards the vet bills and cremation but refuses to pay the remaining almost $400.00 of vet debt he has left me with nor pay damages towards being able to purchase, care for, train, vaccinate etc another pooch to help me care and monitor my partners Diabetes ...

I would really love the opportunity to be able to cover these vet costs and to find and start training another pup to help us manage my partners diabetes. It’s so sad that the other people are unwilling to take responsibility (admits liability, just refuses to pay), we just want to be able to grieve without worrying about the vet debt and start looking for a pup to start training to detect glucose levels for my partner again :) any help would be so muchly appreciated.

Shawn changed the way we were able to live day to day. RIP Mr Shawn, you were here for a short time but you will live in our hearts forever ❤️

If there are funds surplus to our needs I will purchase and donate food for the local SPCA and Street Cats for the amazing jobs the do caring for animals.

Use of funds

Funds will go towards paying the vet bills left for Mr Shawn, providing care, vaccinations, basic training, diabetic service training and once found, a Furbaby to love and train. Surplus will go to the local SPCA and Street Cats as food donations.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
