My little buddy Litshi

  • Last Call

      25 March 2020

    Hi,

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you. Things have been a little busy lately, especially with the current events. I hope everyone is taking sensible precautions. A couple of days ago I received some information that you can’t catch COVID-19 from your pet. Then I saw on the news last night that humans can pass on C-19 to their pets. When this first started to get really serious WHO was saying that it’s a human specific virus. Too much information with too many contradictions – not exactly encouraging – best to take the precautions and live as best as you can. Most importantly, don’t panic.

My Little Buddy is doing great. Very shortly after getting up and about, three days confined to the bedroom to restrict movement, he very quickly took over my La-Z-Boy. His first day outside, after four more days inside, was a little apprehensive. Now he's back to normal, spending hours out. He can happily jump up onto the picnic table, and down again. He can also run surprisingly fast, and over the last few days – getting mischievous 😊👍👍👍.

The new image is of Litshi just before his operation, then fifteen days later. All of you have made two Litshi’s very happy. Thank you all so much, and I hope all of you get through this current dilemma healthy and happy.

I'll leave this post up until Sunday night, then permanently close it.

Thank you all once again, take care 👋👋😊😊

    Litshi and me 🐈👴

I have just finished making up a litter box for me little buddy.

I got a phone call from the vet saying that they had seen my post. They said that there was a misunderstanding, and that I don’t have to pay any more towards Litshi’s surgery.

I must go now, I have to give Litshi a feed before giving him his pain meds at 5pm.

    Take care everyone.

This has been such a time for both of you. I am so relieved the surgery has been done and your best buddy is home with a healthy appetite! I wish you two a quiet period of healing and just enjoying each other's company & snuggles. Would love to read future updates on how Litshi's recovery is going if you have the energy 🐱 Either way, I wish you two best of friends a very healthy & happy future for many years to come 🐾👣

p.s. Since you explained the origins of it, I chuckle to myself everytime I see Litshi's name 😄

    Hi everyone,

I picked Litshi up from the vet about three hour’s ago.

Yesterday, while removing Litshi’s leg, the vet had to remove six of his teeth. This bumped the cost up to exceed the funds available from you/Givealittle. Litshi has a follow up appointment on Monday at 3pm. I will see if I can get a printout of the costs then post it so you can see where the funds have been used.

    Here’s a breakdown:

    You/Givealittle..........................$2,247.45

    Me – Tuesday 03/03/2030..............................$0,020.00

    Total..........................................$2,267.45

Cost of surgery and teeth extraction..................................$2,331.00

    Deficit........................................$0,063.55

On my last Post I said that the vet was going to waive the extra cost. Today at the vet another lady told me that I will have to pay the balance. I mentioned the phone discussion with the vet to the lady, but didn’t get a definitive answer in regards to whether I have to pay the balance or not. They did kindly give Litshi an expired flea collar that they said would last eight months.

When I got Litshi home I confined him to the bedroom, where he has to stay for three days, then stay inside for another four days before he is allowed out side. As soon as I let him out of his carrier he tucked into some Dine cat food, and scoffed it down. I then spent some time with him, it was great to hear him purring. He definitely seems happy to be home, and it’s good to have him home.

Thank you all again, you saved my little buddy’s life 🐱

  • He's Okay

      4 March 2020

    Hi everyone,

I spoke to the vet about an hour ago. She said Litshi is doing well after the surgery, and was just waking up. They had to remove a few of his teeth unfortunately, but said he would be a lot better for it. The vet is going to call me tomorrow morning and let me know when I can pick him up. The vet also said that the cost of everything exceeded the amount of funds, but are going to let me off the shortfall. I will see if I can get a breakdown of the costs and post it so you can see what the funds were used for.

Once again, I would like to thank all of the donors for your outstanding contributions and selfless generosity that made saving my little buddy possible. I would like to thank Givealittle for their services, and the amazing work they did behind the scenes to get the funds to the vet so speedily. Without all of you working together none of this would have been possible. My thoughts and Aroha go out to you all for your kindness towards me and all the others you help. I would also like to thank the vet’s for their time and effort they put into Litshi, and for them so graciously waiving some of the costs towards my little buddy's care.

Thank you all so much, Litshi and me 🐈👴

  • It's Happening

      3 March 2020

    Hi everyone,

I took Litshi to the vet for his 3pm appointment. While there the vet confirmed that they have received verification from Givealittle that the funds are going to be paid directly to them. Because of this the vet has decided to operate on Litshi tomorrow afternoon.

So, Litshi is staying at the vet's overnight for his surgery tomorrow. After the surgery he will spend about two more days at the vet to recover, and make sure everything is okay.

While at the vets it was found that Litshi is going to need some work done on his teeth. I won't know exactly what is needed until the vet takes some x-rays tomorrow.

I will keep you updated when I know how things have gone tomorrow.

    Litshi and me 🐈👴🤞🤞

  • Fantastic news

      2 March 2020

Givealittle rang me after they spoke to the vet. It has been agreed by Givealittle and the vet that all of the funds will be paid directly to the vet.

After talking to Givealittle I rang the vet. They said to bring Litshi in for his appointment with them tomorrow at 3pm. At that appointment they will check Litshi over and give us some more pain meds to keep him out of pain until they operate, possibly on Thursday this week, to have his leg amputated.

The great thing is Litshi will finally get his surgery, and hopefully after that all will be okay. The down side is that because all of the funds are going to the vet, there will be no left over funds to pass on to another Givealittle cause, or charity that you know also needs help.

I will keep all of you updated on any developments, and Litshi's progress as it happens.

I can also relate to some of your comments regarding the vet, and other vets from my enquiries - unfortunately the almighty dollar rules.

I can't thank you all enough for your fantastic amazing support, advice, and encouragement. I will never forget how all of you rallied around to Litshi's plight, being so generous and thoughtful. You are amazing people. You helped Litshi and me to have hope, and given us a chance to carry on having a life together - we are forever in your debt.

I can't stop saying this enough - thank you all so much.

    Litshi and me 🐈👴 ♥️♥️♥️

Wonderful news. I’m sure you will have no trouble spending all the funds on Litshi at that vet. I hope they will leave you with a credit that you can spend on him in the future. A lot of vets sell food and flee treatments etc and as he gets older he may have other problems that the money can be used for.

Good luck with the op and keep us posted.

Hi glad to hear the vet is going to operate. What is the vet going to do with the excess money? Please keep us updated. I pay an automatic payment to my vet $10 per week which usually keeps me in credit for those unexpected vet bills.

I am holding off answering your questions at the moment because I am waiting for a call from the vet who is at present on the phone with Givealittle. As soon as I know what happening I will let everyone know.

  • Excess Funds

      1 March 2020

Hi everyone, I forgot to mention that if enough funds are available to cover all of Litshi's expenses, and there is anything left over they will be donated to another needy cause - either Givealittle, or another cause you may suggest.

Hi Wayne, can you write an update here following Litshi’s surgery? I have been following this and hope for the best outcome. Kia kaha to you both. Dee Sims.

  • Final hours

      1 March 2020

I have been trying to get the vet to talk to Givealittle. Givealittle is willing to talk to the vet about the dire circumstances Litshi and I are in. The vet needs money for the surgery paid at the time, I assume, or prior to the surgery would be most likely. All of the vet's I have spoken to want payment up front regardless of the funds that have been so kindly and generously donated by you to Givealittle.

Givealittle apparently aren't used to a fundraiser being so short, and the need to release to the funds so quickly.

The deadline for Litshi to be put down is three days away. Litshi is a strong, active (loves his food), mischievous, fun loving, normal cat. He has a few good years to go, and I would like to spend them with him, rather than without him. He doesn't deserve to have his life cut short, especially when all two parties have to do is talk to each other - and hopefully come to an agreement to save Litshi, he deserves a chance. Isn't that what we ALL deserve?

Regardless of how things are going with the financials I have decided to close the Givealittle page today at 4pm. I have also decided to have Litshi's leg amputated, if the vet will do that under the current circumstances. From the feedback you have given me, overall it is the best thing to do. Also, because it has been a week since this happened, Litshi's leg would've started setting and would probably have to be broken to do any repairs.

The driving forces behind my decision is that the vet needs the funds up front, plus what would be best for Litshi.

I must apologize profoundly to everyone who has donated for not keeping you updated with current circumstances. Just to let you know, for me, a bike ride to the supermarket results in at least two days recuperation. A head wind makes it worse. So, with all the stress, broken and lack of sleep with what has happened to Litshi I have found it difficult to keep up. Everytime I start to write a post I'd fall asleep and lose everything I wrote. Yesterday afternoon, Saturday, I sat down, fell asleep and woke up at 4 in the morning – 12 hours later, feeling like I had been for a bike ride.

All through this, amazingly, Litshi has carried on, as best as he can, being the cat he is. He has been handling the situation better than me, and through doing that he has been my rock.

The original target for Litshi was $1,387.26 to have his leg amputated. I have spoken to the vet, just after noon today, to clarify any details and to try and cover all bases where cost is concerned. When I first took Litshi to the vet, to get a full consultation would include x-rays. Once again that would have to be paid for up front, which I can’t afford. Now, if everything works out, the vet may need to take pre-operative x-rays, not included in the first estimate, which could cost anything from $175 - $375, to make sure that there are no other injuries to Litshi. So, I’m keeping everything crossed that there are no other medical issues with my little buddy. He is doing really well, and there doesn’t appear to be anything else wrong with him, but I’m not a vet so I don’t really know, just what I hope.

I hope all of you understand my decisions, to close the Givealittle page, and to amputate Litshi’s leg - because of the situation with the vet needing the funds first, as much of the funds have to be cleared by Givealittle as soon as possible.

I want to thank everyone, donars and supporters for your donations, help and support. Everyone has been so fantastic, you have blown me away with your awesome generosity, great advice and moral support. The World needs more people like you, and you should be proud of yourselves for the people you are.

I would like to thank Givealittle too, for their site, the work they do behind the scenes, and the understanding and support they have given to Litshi and me.

Once again, thank you so much. Your kindness will be with Litshi and me for the rest of our lives. Through this, hopefully I can pass on your Kama to someone else in the future.

Before I sign off, I think it is fair you know what Litshi’s name stands for, some of you may have already figured it out. Litshi’s name comes from the first three letters in Little, and the first three letters in Shit – Litshi = Little Shit.

Thank you all, I hope you have great lives and a future full of happiness.

    Litshi and me 🐈👴♥️♥️

  • Reassessment

      28 February 2020

Sorry for taking so long to get back to all of you. This is the third time I have tried to post this. The first two times I lost everything due to me mucking it up when I tried to post it.

I have got the estimate from the vet to save Litshi's leg - $3,175.40. I have also been taking in all of your messages; most supportive, some advice, and some there must be a cheaper vet.

I took Litshi to the vet where he is registered, but they don't have the surgical facilities. There is another vet just down the road, so I took Litshi there to see if they could help. Because I am not registered with that vet they said I would have to pay up front for Litshi's treatment.

I can't drive for medical reasons, so my only transport is my mountain bike. I am limited on how far and how often I can ride my bike because of other medical reasons. I need to ride my bike to help keep my lungs working as much as possible, and to keep myself active as possible, even though it is very painful.

Because of these revelations I have decided to reassess Litshi's treatment. I have also had to take a look at myself and ask am I trying to save Litshi's leg for his benefit or mine. I have heard from some of you saying that you have had your cat/dogs leg amputated and they have managed well and have a good life. Others have said that they have had their little buddy's (family members) leg saved, and later down the road have had to have their leg amputated, resulting in another surgery. I wouldn't feel comfortable with asking for more help with Litshi's leg if something like that happens.

I am in the process of looking for other vets that may be able to offer a cheaper solution. Especially now that I have had an amazing offer of help from a supporter. That offer of help is that they will take Litshi to another vet for me if it is necessary.

I am sorry for waffling, but I believe that all of you deserve to know the reasons for my decision to reassess Litshi's treatment, and why I am doing it - for his benefit or mine. He is the one that has to go through the surgical procedure, and I don't think it is fair to him to make him go through it twice if it doesn't work out.

If I decide to have Litshi's leg amputated and there are funds left over I think they should go to someone else's little buddy on Givealittle. Let me know what you think if there are funds left over. There are many needy little buddies on Givealittle, or someone may know of another cause out there that needs help.

I will keep you all updated on any changes as soon as I can. Once again, thank you all for your stupendous support and encouragement from Litshi and me ♥️♥️.

Thanks for the update, I totally understand where your coming from. You just do what you feel is best for Litshi. I think your idea of gifting any leftover to another person who needs help, there are also loads of cat rescues that could use the money. If you need any suggestions let me know :)

  • The Vet

      27 February 2020

I have been in touch with the Vet, and told them about all of you amazing people and your generosity. The Vet's first response was ”Awesome”. The Vet is going to email me an estimate, so as soon as that happens I'll let you all know. Then I will submit it to the Givealittle people to have it verified.

Thank you all for your encouragement and support, you are the greatest.

    Litshi and me ♥️.

  • New goal

      27 February 2020

I have changed the target goal to $3000 in the hope of saving Litshi's leg. I will contact the vet to see if I can get a quote on the cost of the surgery to save Litshi's leg.

When I get the quote I will let you know, and supply it to the Givealittle people, that no doubt do a lot of work behind the scenes for thousands of Kiwi's to realise their dreams and give them hope.

So glad you've met your target.

I've had a cat with a leg pinned after being hit by a car. Our dog has had that surgery done and then subsequently had his leg amputated. I wish I'd done that for the cat too - it actually gives a much better outcome and reduces problems later.

Our dog had his leg amputated last July and has taken to life as a tripod beautifully. Personally I wish we hadn't done the original surgery to plate it and had amputated it from the start.

Best of luck whatever you choose to do and hope Litshi is feeling better soon.

  • Amazing people

      27 February 2020

I am blown away by the amazing response from you wonderful people. Your generous donations have almost got to the goal to have Litshi's leg amputated, and avoid having to have him put down. When I posted this plea for Litshi I didn't think there would be a chance of saving his leg at a cost of over $3000.

Because of your amazing generosity and empathy, all of you have given me hope that there is a chance that his leg can be saved. Because of this I have amended the goal to be open in the hope that enough can be raised to cover the cost of saving his leg.

Once again thank you all so much for your support. I am so grateful, and my heart has been lifted by your messages of support and encouragement for Litshi.

Thank you from Litshi and me.

  • Thank you

      26 February 2020

I would like to thank the people very much who have donated so far. I am overwhelmed, and extremely appreciative of your support.

Litshi is doing very well in accepting his temporary cast. He is behaving like his normal self, though I think the pain meds are helping with that. He is eating well, and drinking water. The hard part is not letting him move around too much, as he likes to spend the day outside.

He has just woken up, so must go and tend to him. Once again, thank you so much for your support.
