I would like to sincerely thank you for your support and encouragement of my ride to Wellington and your generous donations to the Cerebral Palsy Society – a very worthy cause.
The Cerebral Palsy Society are most grateful for the donations which at this stage totals $6438 and there is more pledged to come as well.
My aim was to promote an awareness of children and adults affected by Cerebral Palsy.
I left Morrinsville around 10am on Monday 20th September and arrived in Paremata ( just north of Wellington city ) just after mid- day on Saturday 25th in one piece. I really enjoyed the ride with some ideal conditions for most of the way. This included a slight tail or side winds and with temperatures great to ride in from around 8 to 14 degrees.
My route – totaling 577 km
Day 1 Monday - Morrinsville to Tokoroa via back roads of Tirau and Putaruru 96km
Day 2 Tuesday - Tokoroa to Taupo via Whakamaru 86km
Day 3 Wednesday - Taupo to Turangi 55km
Day 4 Thursday -Desert Road – Due to dangerous conditions missed this leg but short ride at Taihape ( and later a ride in Wellington) 91km
Day 5 Friday - Taihape to Feilding via Manawatu Scenic Route, then onto Levin via Shannon 166km
Day 6 Levin to Paremata
The only change to the route occurred on Thursday – Turangi to Taihape. Very heavy rain occurred the day prior when nearing Turangi and this continued overnight and next day causing flooding in the motel carpark. Travelers warned me that conditions on Desert Road were horrendous with heavy rain continuing and very low cloud, so I decided it was too unsafe to cycle this leg. We drove through to Taihape that day and I went out for a short ride there and made up some of the distance I had planned to do, and another ride after I arrived at the final destination to make the distance. Safety first !
Thank you again for your support – it has been an awesome adventure for me and I am very privileged to have had you on board.
