Auckland Record Shop Fundraiser

$236 of $5,000 goal
Given by 7 generous donors in 10 weeks

We are the North Shores last independent record store, we are family run and need some support to keep our community store alive!

Nationwide

Browns Bays record store opened in 1981 in Clyde Road and was purchased by us (father and sons team) in mid 2009.

Originally the shop mainly sold CD's and DVD's but was replaced with a more varied selection such as new and used vinyl, guitars/amps and accessories, new release CD's and back catalog, clothing, artwork, band merchandise, computer repairs and even have a few live gigs!

Over the years we have been involved in many community projects such as UkuBays (adult ukulele group held in store at night), Browns Bay Community Radio (107.7FM) and many local musicians have released their latest albums in store (all done for free and for a shear love of music).

In August 2013, Browns Bay lost it's main retail store (Farmers) which heavily affected our foot traffic and sales and after 1 year of Farmers closing we battled to the bitter end but had to concede to the high rent that we were paying for foot traffic we weren't getting.

Sadly we closed our iconic shop in Mid 2014. In September 2014, we re-opened in a new premises 500m away from our old store in a building that had greatly reduced rent but twice the size, we then discovered that only a small percentage of our customers live in Browns Bay and have had great difficulty reaching the majority of our Auckland customers due to a lack of any funds to advertise. The owner/operator, Paul Zwaig, has run this community based store for nearly 5 and a half years has worked for the love of music and for a love of the Browns Bay community, but we are struggling to make ends meet, hence the idea behind starting the 'Give A Little' page. To keep the shop alive and kicking, we need approximately $10,000.

If you are in a position to help in any way at all, please donate any amount that you can afford as we have put our whole heart and soul in to this already and the North Shore still needs community hub stores like ours to survive.

Many thanks,

Paul, Sam and Ben

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
