Help Nadia attend an intense spinal rehab facility in Australia to help her achieve her potential.

Marlborough

My name is Latasha Gilroy and I am a very good friend of Nadia Mackles. In July 2015 Nadia was in a horrific car accident which left her a T6 incomplete paraplegic and unable to walk, she is totally reliant on a wheelchair. Now that its two years on, Nadia has achieved all she can through finishing rehab at Christchurch’s Burwood Spinal unit, and personal rehabilitation and now feels that she needs further input from spinal rehabilitation specialists. Currently there is nowhere in New Zealand where she can go and complete this! So this brings us to why I created this page. In October this year Nadia will be attending an intense specialised spinal rehabilitation centre on the Gold Coast of Australia, for a month, called Making Strides Spinal Cord Injury Recovery. Nadia will be attending the facility 5 days a week for a month. None of this trip is funded by ACC or the health system here in New Zealand, therefore I feel that to take the pressure off, we need to get behind Nadia and help her achieve her dreams and goals. Nadia passionately wants to pursue any treatment that may potentially help her regain what she has lost.

Attending such a specialised rehab facility comes at a hefty price, but one could never put a price on what they wouldn’t pay to be able to achieve the potential that Nadia has.

In total we hope to raise around $25,000 to cover Nadia’s month long trip to Australia. This will cover the rehab facility fees, medical costs, flights and accommodation for her and one carer to help her while she is there.

I know Nadia’s ultimate dream is to walk again one day, we would all love to see those with spinal injuries back on there feet again. Obviously it wont happen at the drop of a hat, but we have to start somewhere.

Thank you all, in advance for your support, for taking the time to read about Nadia, and in particular any financial contribution you choose to make towards her cause.

If you wish to follow Nadia’s journey, now and while she is in Australia, please feel free to join her Facebook recovery page which she will update frequently on her trip.

I'm not sure if we met, except if it was at Lexie's baptism, when there were a lot of new people to meet. Anyhow, I feel you are a family friend because you are Lexie's friend. Iv'e seen a little fo your story and been inspired by you and by the friendship you share. You are a star and I want the best for you. I hope you are encouraged, not only by the financial support but the fact that you can shine out across the globe as an inspiration to others. As someone who has recovered from a bedridden state to full health, I know it means more than words to walk freely. I know you need guts and I know you can do it. Much love, friends of Lexie x
