Nakyias fight

Nakyia, My beautiful 18 yr old niece, is in for the fight of her life only weeks after proudly being her dad's witness at his wedding to her beautiful step mum Amanda.

Having already endured heartbreak in her young life with her mum passing away tragically when she was only 15 months old, Nakyia was rushed to hospital multiple times over the weekend. After an urgent MRI scan on Monday and numerous tests and biopsy, she has been diagnosed with a sarcoma in her spine. She has a large aggressive tumor. It is an extremely rare in the spine. Particularly in an 18 year old.

She was rushed from Waikato hospital to Middlemore where surgeons were waiting. But given how nasty this thing is surgery is not an immediate option. Plans got underway and she was transferred to Auckland central to start aggressive radiation and chemo treatments. She is going to have 25 days in a row of radiation starting now. As well as chemo. This is just the start of her journey.

Unfortunately this isn't going to be an easy fix. The size, the location all holds so much risk.

At home in Hamilton is her 1 yr old brother who is missing his mummy, her two teen brothers, and her dad who is not allowed to stay overnight in this ward.

Travel alone from Hamilton to Auckland central is going to be hard. Both parents needing to have time off work as one needs to be at hospital and one caring for the children. Please we need your help.

Nakyia is fighting hard!  20 April 2022

Well we are on the downward slope of the radiation treatment, only 8 more sessions to go! Fingers crossed and she can tick all the boxes, Nakyia may be transferred back to the Waikato to continue her chemotherapy. This would be amazing as she will be closer to her family. It's been hard on her dad and mum taking shifts being in auckland, traveling, looking after my 18 month old nephew Arthur and 2 other teen boys. Certainly taking a toll on the newly weds. I hope they can have a break together again soon. But for now, Nakyia is fighting on. She has lost all her beautiful hair. It was falling out in clumps so Nakyia made the brave call yesterday to shave it off.

Next week will be testing. 5 days straight of radiation and chemo.

Back again soon with further updates as they develop. It is a very fluid situation for now.

Thank you kindly to all those who have donated. The pressure this takes off my family is immense. So thank you thank you thank you xxxx

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
