Quality life memories for Natalie Adams

  • Pros and Cons

      20 February 2016

So a lot has been happening since the last update.

Natalies chemo has been stopped at present. The hospital is happy with the progress and feel that the progress is at a point she can have a rest from it. Natalie's weight has started dropping again though so the priority at present is to deal with that. At a tiny 38kg, it is really important that she puts on a little weight, particularly is chemo is needed again in the future.

The problem here is that although Natalie has a feeding tube, its not been enough to keep her weight on and Oral feeding had become non -existent.

Natalie went into hospital last week to have a stent put in her Oesophagus. The doctors discovered that it only had an opening of a few mm. The stent is now in place and Natalie has been able to eat tiny bits of soft food but unfortunately the disadvantage of the procedure is that it stops the valve working which causes her reflux and sleeping has to be more upright.

She is staying very strong and positive and we are all very proud of her.

Natalie had a CT Scan last week and went in to discuss the results. Very pleased to be able to say that the cancer in her liver has reduced so the chemo is doing its job.

Natalie also had a life celebration this weekend in wedding style as she hadn't got married. It was an amazing day and Natalie looked beautiful.

  • A Challenging week!

Every day can bring a new challenge for Natalie and this week there has been a few.

Natalie has adjusted well after her surgery and feeding tube about 2 weeks ago.

Unfortunately, earlier this week the feeding tube area got infected which meant a trip to the hospital and antibiotics.

Bloods were done to check white blood cell count which were high so Natalie was able to go home.

As the chemo kills white blood cells, its important to check this as infections and illness can be fatal if the body can't fight.

Further complications with the feeding tube meant another trip to the hospital on Friday.

Riley also has his tonsils and adenoids out this week, he is doing very well and is home and happy.

Natalie is taking all this in her stride and is very appreciative of all the support, love and messages she is receiving.

    Thank you all xx
