Need funds for surgery to stay alive

Kia ora, my name is William Rangi.

I’m reaching out with a heavy heart and deep humility. I’m in urgent need of $15,000 for life-changing surgery to repair an inguinal hernia and bilateral varicoceles . The only specialist who can perform this procedure is in Auckland, and because he works privately, I need to travel from Invercargill and cover the full cost myself.

I’ve exhausted every possible avenue—ACC, WINZ, the public health system, and even personal loans. Sadly, I’ve been turned down time and again. My operation is booked for June 30, 2025, but I’ve now been told I won’t receive any financial support from ACC until September—months too late.

I’ve lived with this condition since 2022. The pain and discomfort have gotten worse, and for the past two weeks I’ve been completely laid up. I can no longer walk. I haven’t been able to work since this began, and it’s taken a serious toll not just on my body, but on my spirit.

I’m only 45 and a father to five beautiful children who need me. I value family above all else, and I just want the chance to live a healthy life again—to run, to work, to be a present dad.

From the bottom of my heart, I’m asking for help. Anything—big or small—would mean the world to me and my whānau. I have just 13 days left before my surgery date, and this is my last hope.
