Auckland
The students at CareKids Before and After School Care Programme want to raise
enough money to provide one hundred thousand lunches to students in an
earthquake-struck school in Nepal. CareKids would like to challenge 100 schools and
their communities to get involved in the Givealittle campaign. They have set a goal of
raising enough money to provide one hundred thousand lunches for the students in
Nepal, which is NZ$50,000.
The earthquake in 2015 which killed 9000 left damage in the area of Kathmandu
which has huge effects on the people who live there, including job losses that have
affected many families already living in poverty. 200,00 peoples’ homes were
destroyed, many of which are still living in tents.
This fundraiser is working alongside that of Stephen Black
(https://givealittle.co.nz/cause/nepal-earthquake-3-years-on) to support a
community that was severely damaged by the 2015 earthquake. The money raised in
this fundraiser goes to the Rangjung Yeshe ShenPen organisation, a non-profit
organisation who is working to provide daily lunches to the Mitra Aadharbhut
Vidhayala public school. For more information on the Rangjung Yeshe ShenPen
organisations work at this school see http://www.shenpennepal.org/project-
news/2017/07/meal-program-mitra-aadharbhut-vidhayala/ .
The students at CareKidswere touched by Stephen Blacks work in Nepal and wanted
to do something to help the kids in Nepal.. Sasha (8 years old) said that she gave her
pocket money because “[she] thought what it would be like for them to have no
food, or shelter and no change of clothes.” Leah (5 years old who gave her tooth fairy
money) said “I did it because they would be sick without enough food to eat.” These
students recognise the need to support kids in Nepal and would like to see other kids
think of ways that they can help.
CareKids has already raised some money to support Rangjung Yeshe ShenPen Organisation and would like to continue supporting children in Nepal.
Money raised in this fundraiser will go to the Rangjung Yeshe ShenPen organisation
to help provide daily lunches to students at Mitra Aadharbhut Vidhayala public
school.
