The communities of Bistachhap and Badikhel have been badly affected by the Nepal Earthquake - help them recover and rebuild!
Wellington
Nepal has been devastated by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake on April 25th. There has been a huge loss of life and severe damage to vital infrastructure and buildings.
GVN is doing all we can to support our partner projects in Nepal at this time and we want to ensure you are able to offer your support as well.
We have learnt that around 90% of the homes in Bistachhap and Mulpani have been damaged or lost. There is also damage and loss of homes to Badikhel, and we are waiting for accurate details on the number of homes that will need repairs or rebuild, but we expect it will be similar.
Repairing a home can cost in the region of $1,500 - $2,000 and rebuilding a home entirely can cost in the region of $4,000.
GVN Charitable Trust will distribute funds to our partners in Nepal to meet the immediate needs of the community and to help with the recovery. Due to electricity being down, communication is difficult but we have been in contact with our partner and have pledged our support.
GVN has been working with our partner organization in Nepal since 2002. We have provided funding to a range of projects including the construction and running of two children's homes, as well as placing volunteers in women's education classes, community maintenance projects, local schools and residential centres. Our partners have significant experience providing development assistance at the grassroots level and you can be confident that your donation will make a direct difference in the recovery process.
Orphans of Nepal Trust (ONT) partners with the same communities as GVN, so you can be confident that ONT and GVN are both working hard to support these communities in whatever way they require.
Thank you for your kindness and being involved.
We're involved because Bistachhap and Badikhel have been our partner communities for a number of years. We are so saddened by the impacts of the earthquake and the impact on the community, and we wish to support them as they rebuild their lives.
Our vision is to connect people with communities in need, with a particular focus on vulnerable women and children. We do this by supporting the work of local community organizations in countries through the placement of international volunteers.
Bamboo-GVN has been working with our partner in Nepal since 2002, and has granted over US$250,000 to our partner communities and projects since then.
