  • Thank you for your support in 2021!

    Dear JKET supporters,

2021 was the year of a new start for Japan Kauri Education Trust. In January, we resumed our Japanese Children’s Library services, Japanese Heritage Centre of Auckland. Since then, we have hosted various workshops in the new ‘home’; all these wouldn’t have been possible without warm support from so many community members and organisations. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the continued understanding and support you’ve given to JKET amidst the COVID-19 pandemic despite the difficulty and uncertainty caused by prolonged lockdown and numerous challenges in many aspects of our life.

Our society is still dealing with the ongoing impact of COVID-19 and will be volatile due to public safety regulations. While it is for sure a challenging time for JKET, it is also a critical time for us to repeatedly ponder the meaning of our services to the community and refresh our minds to work towards our goal.

To materialise the multi-cultural society with full potential, we will keep working hard to meet the needs of the Japanese community by offering the opportunities to deepen the understanding of the cultural differences between New Zealand and Japan while establishing great relationships with regional organisations.

Thank you so much for your continuous support and understanding of JKET.

May this holiday season be filled with joy and peace.

    Naoko Miyauchi

    Director

Japanese Children's Library will finally reopen from Monday 11 January, all thanks to your generous support! The reopening will be in phases as we still have books need to be sorted and arranged. Still we are so grateful that we see this day to reopen the library. Please come and see the new Japanese Children's Library. Looking forward to seeing you there!

Our crowdfunding page with Give A Little was ended yesterday after successful 6 months of campaign. Words cannot express how grateful we are for all the supports from 123 people all over the world and raised $11,090. With other grant fundings given by NZ government organizations & NPOs, we are able to make enough fund to rent our new 'HOME' for a year and cover the moving cost! Without every single support we've received, our goal to have our own 'HOME' wouldn't be materialized. From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU SO MUCH!

There will still be big hurdles to overcome - One most important and biggest challenge is to keep making enough fund to cover the rent for the upcoming years.

We would greatly appreciate if you could continue to give us your generous and thoughtful support. Please follow us on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/inchJ) for the future updates.

    Thank you again everyone!

Our crowdfunding page NEW 'HOME' FOR JAPAN KAURI EDUCATION TRUST on Givealittle.co.nz will come to an end its fundraising campaign on 14th December.

Thanks to the generous contributions from so many people, we were able to raise $10,840 as of today. Although the amount we've raised is fairly big, we still need to raise money to negate the cost for the repairs and the installation of security devices on the new premises.

In order to make our new HOME safe to use for everyone, especially for our children who are growing up here in Auckland, once again, please do consider donating or spreading the words to support JKET.

Thank you so much in advance for your kind understanding and consideration.

Here is an update of Japanese Children's Library:

We have moved all furniture and books out from the storage (rented since our moving day from the old premises in late June) to the garage of a staff's residence. This is a part of the preparations to reopen the library, hoping to see many children and guardians soon enjoying story immersion by reading our picture books. It will take a bit more time to fulfill it though- thank you so much for your patience and continued support!

It's been already 2 months since we temporary closed Japanese Children's Library. During this short time, we have received countless supports through the fundraising events, e.g. this Give-a-Little crowdfunding, the packing & moving day, the sausage sizzle stands, Japanese Stortytime marathon & Bake sale, etc. Also we have received generous supports from many business owners. Here again we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to everyone! Thank you so much!!

Recently we were notified by BEEF + LAMB NZ that Japan Kauri Education Trust was chosen as a recipient of their Community Fund. With this grant fund (it's actually delicious NZ meat), we would like to host a community BBQ as a small token of our gratitude for everyone who has been supporting us via various ways.

We have been ever so grateful for your generous supports, however, we still have a long way to go to reach our goal. Once again we would like to ask you to share this crowdfunding page via your SNS, emails, etc. That way we can reach out to more people to let them know who JKET are and how important to let us keep serving to the Japanese community in Auckland. It is a very crucial and effective way to get us closer to our goal - 'New Home'.

Thank you so very much for your continued support.

Thursday 2nd July was our last day at the old location in Glenfield. We had the morning class there then moved to Birkdale Community House for the afternoon classes. Had a mixed feeling of sadness and happiness - sad to leave our home with full of great memories for last five years but happy to move towards the new chapter of JKET. To our relief, the students are adjusting to the new location very well. They seem to like the idea having a cool playground just outside the classroom:-)

Sunday 5th July, we hosted a Sausage Sizzle stand at Mitre 10 Mega Glenfield for fundraising towards our goal "New Home". It was a cold day with occasional sprinkles of rain, but all the kind words and supports from the people who dropped by made us warm at heart. Shouldn't forget to mention our super duper volunteers TEAM JKET for keeping the stand running like a well-oiled machine and the customers happy!

Despite all our worries that everything won't be fit in the truck and the storage, our volunteers and the movers managed to move all furniture and the boxes from our premises to the storage. Phew! Thank you for all your hard work, Team Mighty Daddies!

It is awkward to see the empty rooms where always filled with books, children, and smiles.

We sincerely hope to find our new 'home' soon so that everyone can come to our library again, not only to read Japanese books, but also to feel the unity, the love and the inclusion to our community.
