Please help Heather to get to New York City to participate in Broadway Dance Centre's three-month intensive dance program!
Auckland
I am a Bachelor of Dance graduate who has recently been accepted into Broadway Dance Centre's International Student Visa Program. This is initially a three-month intensive dance course in the heart of New York City. I have managed to raise 80% of the tuition and flight costs but need to raise the last 20% and am asking for your help.
In early 2017 I was lucky enough to attend a Mia Michaels workshop in Sydney which inspired me to further explore the dance industry and improve my choreographic skills. Mia Michaels, as a former dance teacher at the Broadway Dance Centre in NYC, inspired me to apply there. I found Mia Michaels style of teaching very emotive and her understanding of movement incredibly inspiring.
I believe the Broadway Dance Centre, International Programme will help assist me in continuing my education and developing my skill set while giving me a greater knowledge of the world of dance in America. It will also develop a professional relationship with teaching staff who offer ongoing nurturing and mentoring to assist in opening doors into the industry. The practical nature of this course of study is something that will enhance my ability in both dancing and choreography.
This programme also fits in with my previous training just simply by being able to build on what I have already learnt, especially throughout my university years. Being able to work directly in the industry is a vital key to any professional dancer. It gives the dancer the ability to be an active member within local communities and also helps to develop creative expression which is a continually learning process.
Funds will go towards tuition and flights. If I am for any reason unable to attend the specified course funds will be donated to an appropriate dance project school within the dance community in New Zealand.
