Otago Equestrian Centre's New Indoor Surface

$1,050 of $100,000 goal
Given by 10 generous donors in around 4 months

We need a new surface for our indoor arena! We're replacing our 25 year old wood chips with a state of the art sand and fibre surface!

Otago

Our indoor arena is an Incorporated Society and is also a Registered Charitable Organisation.

Each week, we have nearly 100 people of all ages use our facilities from a variety of community groups including horse riders, pony clubs, dressage clubs, show jumping clubs, dog training and agility clubs, and rugby clubs!

If we don’t upgrade our surface as soon as possible, the Otago Equestrian Centre will almost certainly cease to exist.

Over recent years, our membership and users have continued to decline because the 25 year old surface:

· Is unsafe for horses to consistently train on, thus making it unsafe for riders too

· Inhibits the high performance aspirations of talented riders in our region

· Creates a lot of dust

· Does not have a long life.

Otago Equestrian Centre's involvement (page creator)

Our indoor arena is an Incorporated Society and is also Registered Charitable Organisation. We have a small volunteer group of passionate and committed locals, some who have been on the committee since the inception of the facility in 1992. The committee is charged with running, managing and maintaining the facilities for all to use now and into the future.

About us

For 25 years, the Otago Equestrian Centre has provided our community with a training venue that is not weather affected. It is a place for riders of all ages and stages to pursue their hobby, passion or profession.

We are a facility that teaches young children the joys of equestrian pursuits, and is a facility that has helped our top riders train to realise the honour of representing our country on the global stage. In recent years, we have welcomed other groups in our community, such as canine training clubs and rugby clubs, to enjoy the facility for training and competition.

Since its inception in 1992, our facility has had a wood-chip surface. It served it’s purpose and enabled our community to use this facility to thrive in their chosen pursuit.

But the time has come where we need to upgrade the surface. No longer is a new surface a “nice to have”, it is a necessity for the reasons outlined throughout this overview, but most importantly, to ensure our community can continue to have a facility such as this.

Use of funds

All Funds Will Go Towards Our New Surface!

For over 18 months, our committee have been researching the type of surface our facility (and community) should invest in, that will:

· benefit all user groups

· protect the future of the facility

· appeal to new users, and community groups

· have a long life

At a meeting in May 2017, our users voted unanimously on a Fibre And Sand Surface.

The new surface has three layers: base, sand and fibre
