Help us support Kyrin (12) with his long fight against stage 4 brain cancer
Waikanae, Wellington
Less than 3 weeks ago (early September), we had the news no family wants.
Kryin - a sweet, kind and selfless child (with an infectious laugh) went for a routine eye test, which to our horror resulted in an emergency trip to Wellington Hospital and the news that no family wants to hear – Kyrin has a brain tumour.
Like any 12-year boy he should have been playing rugby, basketball or riding his motorbike, but instead he was rushed to Christchurch Hospital for 10-hours of open brain surgery.
We all held out positive hopes, but our worst fears were realised and Kyrin was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer – to say that this came as a shock to the family is an understatement.
For Kyrin this means a long and difficult road to recovery.
He first needs to recover from the operation before he can undergo chemotherapy (a complication of the surgery meant his brain has gone into shock and he has difficultly speaking, eating, swallowing and his vision is impaired). Intensive rehabilitation will be required before he can get back to being a kid and the things he loves.
Whilst the staff at Christchurch hospital have been amazing, the long road to recovery will be very difficult for Kyrin, who will need his family by his side – this is further complicated as his family is based in Wellington.
Any donations that will make this road ahead easier will be greatly appreciated and will assist us with making sure that Kyrin has the best chance at recover.
I am Kyrin’s Aunty, but I have set up this page on behalf of his parents, who are obviously too distraught at this point and time to do it themselves.
Any donations will be used to support Kyrin through this difficult time. Including ensuring that his family can be by his side to assist him in getting better.
