Providing pathways and opportunities for our young Samoan players to represent their heritage.

International

In the Inaugural 2016 World Schools 7s tournament, although we were a late inclusion we placed 2nd beating New Zealand in the semi-final and losing to Australia in a tightly contested final. At the conclusion of the final, Siave Togoiu from our team was named the Player of the Tournament. Siave’s highlight footage went viral on social media. Last year we lost in the cup semi-final to Fiji who scored in the last play to win the game. The Samoan Barbarians Team’s success has earned them another spot for this year’s tournament being held at Pakuranga Rugby Club on the 14th 15th of December. Since 2016 we have had players progress on to higher honours at provincial, super rugby and international U20s level. Without this pathway, we would not be able to provide a platform to expose and further the development of our players which is the main driving force of our WHY.

We would like to build on the success of 2016 and 2017 but to do this we would need support to cover the costs of playing in this world tournament. Our team consists of mainly Samoan students from secondary schools around Auckland with the majority attending low decile South Auckland schools. It would be unfair of me to burden these low-income families with the cost of playing in this tournament hence the reason I am seeking donations.

All funds go directly towards the team. Our coaches and management staff do not get paid for doing this other than the services of the physio.

We gratefully appreciate any size donation big or small.

I am the Head Coach of this team and a former Manu Samoa representative. The reason why I'm doing this is to provide opportunities and pathways for the next generation of rugby stars for Samoa. In order to do this, the team requires funds to finance their upcoming campaign for the World Schools 7s tournament in December.

Use of funds

Fund will go towards, playing kit - jerseys, shorts + socks, bucket hats, casual shorts, warm up tee, singlet, lunches for training camp and tournament, ice, water, recovery reuqirements, physio services, team building activites, samoan culture workshop.
