30 day winter swim challenge to support kiwi kids through serious illness or bereavement.
Auckland
I am a cancer survivor, bereaved mum and also live with Parkinson's and a degenerative heart condition, cardiomyopathy.
Before my heart started to fail and my diagnosis of Parkinson's, I embarked on many sporting challenges to fundraise; marathons, ocean swims, adventure races...I enjoyed supporting others while challenging myself...it was good to feel alive.
Cardiomyopathy and Parkinson's changed that, and I thought, what can I do now...
Then I had a light-bulb moment. While I can't swim the way I used to, I can challenge myself in a new way and embrace physical challenges and push my capabilities. That's where the idea of winter swimming came from.

Smashing targets...$12,000 2 July 2020
Hi Team,
Well...we just keep smashing targets, we reached $12,000 this morning, I simply can't believe how generous and supportive you have all been, thank you, thank you, thank you.
I have been so inspired and motivated, I am still swimming until I go for surgery on Monday, and we are posting updates on the Winter Swim Challenge FaceBook page if you fancy following.
Enjoy the rest of the week ahead, and I hope I may get the opportunity to thank many of you in person in the near future.
Bestest,
Nic
