Hi. I am Nikita Lyons. I am a 17-year old student and I have been selected to represent New Zealand at the International Secondary Schools Biology Competition. This is awesome!! To be selected to represent one’s country is one of the highest honours one can receive!

I am so proud to have this opportunity to compete for my country against the top students from around the world. The 2016 Competition is being held in Vietnam from 16th to 23rd July. This year there is a record number of 68 Countries competing!

I’ve worked really hard and gone through a rigorous process to be selected as one of the team of four announced on 26th April 2016. This is my last ever chance to compete at this competition. In 2015, I came home with a bronze medal and a world ranking of 89th. This year I am working hard to improve on that ranking and hopefully move up the medal table.

Finding funds whilst still keeping up with the tight schedule I already have, and which now includes even MORE intensive biology study, is hard work and really stressful.

The four student team members are each required to contribute $5000. I have estimated that I will need at least another $500 on top of this.
