Help the Nomad Girls U15 team get to Kanga Cup!

This year the Nomads United Under 15 Girls’ team is hoping to go to Canberra, Australia to play in the Kanga Cup.

The Kanga Cup is the largest international youth football tournament in the Southern Hemisphere and will be held from July 2nd to 7th 2017. The Kanga Cup has been running for 26 years, with over 375 teams from Australia, New Zealand and other countries in the region competing over 1 week in Canberra.

Wayne Holdem, the team coach, and the Nomads Football club are committed to setting a pathway for girls’ football in the Canterbury region and the success of this team over the past few seasons has attracted girls from around the Christchurch area to the Nomads club, creating a strong base for girls’ football in the region. Wayne is committed to providing this team with an excellent foundation in football in the full expectation that a number of these players could one day be representing New Zealand in the sport. Several new players have joined the team this year from other clubs.

The team travelling to Canberra includes 7 Canterbury Representative players from the 2016 season, plus 1 reserve in Under 12 rep team and 1 reserve in the Under 14 teams rep team for the season. The team also includes another 3 players who were unable to trial for the Canterbury Representative teams as they were overseas whilst these tournaments were held.

The team will be the first girls’ team from the Nomads club to participate in an overseas tournament.

The tournament will be a great opportunity for the girls to both develop and test their skills in a wider environment against a much larger pool of players than the current pool in the Christchurch area. The tournament is also an opportunity for the girls to celebrate their success to date and to build a strong and cohesive team (including those girls who have joined the team this year from other clubs or grades).
