Nova’s new legs

Nova the Chinchilla is the latest rescue animal to join my pack.

Nova is a 10 year old domestic chinchilla who has spent the majority of her life in the same small cage, only being let out on occasion to explore. Unfortunately, due to lack of adequate husbandry before coming to us, she has extremely diseased skin on her hind legs and requires a surgery called debridement, where they remove any deceased skin to encourage new healthy skin to form. The condition is apparently incredibly painful so oral painkillers and antibiotics are required twice daily. She will need both feet operated on and follow up mini-operations weekly for a month following the initial surgery.

As her current condition is quite bad, I have made the decision to begin the surgeries, borrowing money off my amazingly supportive family to cover the initial costs owed to the vet. She had both legs operated on successfully last week and overall already seems a lot happier, but the road to recovery is a long one! She is booked in at the vet every Friday for 4 weeks for a check up and surgery if needed. With luck, she will be popcorning in no time!

I am fundraising so I can reimburse the family who have covered the vet bills so far, and to pay for any up coming follow-up appointments and surgeries. If I happen to have any extra money after the surgeries, I will use it to enrich Novas life by buying her favourite treats (rose petals), buying or building new things for her cage, or covering daily expenses.
