Supporting Mum through cancer by helping ease the financial pressure on her and our family during this heartbreaking time
Waikato
My beautiful Mother of 3 children and 4 grandies (Shona Jene Picken) is currently going through one of the hardest times of her life after being diagnosed with aggressive stage 4 bladder cancer with metastasis to her pelvis, lymph node, and a rib.
She has always been the person who shows up for my siblings and me. Now, it is our turn to show up for her.
This Givealittle page has been created to help ease some of the financial pressure that comes with cancer treatment. Alongside the emotional stress, there are many extra costs that quickly add up, including travel not covered by the travel scheme, appointments, alternative medication or treatment related expenses, food, household bills, and everyday living costs.
As her daughter, I want to do everything I can to help Mum focus on what matters most right now, her health, comfort and spending time with the people who love her.
We know times are hard for everyone, so please know there is absolutely no pressure to donate but we appreciate you shearing this page and taking the time to read our story x
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, generosity, and love. It truly means more than words can say.
With love,
The picken family xo
I am her daughter Jade Beilby, and I’m setting up this page on Mum’s behalf to help support her with care, comfort, and essential costs.
Funds raised will be used to support Mum’s care, comfort, transport, appointment related costs, household bills, groceries, and other essential living expenses.
Update on Mum 🤍 6 June 2026
Hey friends,
I just wanted to share a little update on Mum and say another huge thank you for all the aroha, donations, messages and shares!
Mum had chemotherapy this week and thankfully it wasn’t too bad at the time, but her white blood cells have started dropping, which means her immune system is quite low at the moment. If they continue to drop, theirs’s a chance they may need to stop chemotherapy, so were just taking things day by day and hoping her body can keep fighting through it.
She’s been feeling pretty tired and sick, but in true Shona fashion, she's till trying to make the most of the little moments. She and Dad have made it to the Thames Coast for a change of scenery, and she sent through this photo from where they are parked up by the water, back to her awa, her happy place :).
We also got her some new wheels recently to help her get around a bit easier, though with the rain and being on crutches, she hasn’t had much of a chance to use them yet. Hopefully in the next few days she’ll be able to try them out properly.
The Givealittle page has now reached over $1000 which is truly amazing. Every donation, share, and message has been so incredibly heartwarming I cry a little, not out of sadness but sheer appreciation, I want my mum to know how loved she is, not just as a Mum, wife, or friend but as a person. so, thank you again for showing up for her.
With so much love,
Jade and whānau x
