New Roof for the Taumarunui Indoor Pool

  • Large donors leading the way

      7 May 2020

Our funding plan required some larger donors to come forward which they have. The rest is now up to you. The Rotary Club of Taumarunui, despite having to postpone their golf day, still raised $5,000 from local businesses. KCEPT has donated $5,000 and the local District Council has set aside $85,500 in future budgets should the re-roofing project proceed.

We started at $126,200 and we are almost there. Taumarunui and its surrounding area is under pressure at present. However, this is a project that should have a 30 or 40 year benefit to our community. The trust encourages as many people as possible to donate as much as possible before the deadline of 14 June. We will be competing for funding from other towns and cities so we must put our best foot forward.

  • KCEPT Donation

      20 February 2020

The Trust Waikato Indoor Heated Pool has just received a $2,500 donation from the King Country Electric Power Trust. This has reduced the total amount required from $126,200.

We are now well on the way but need the community to get behind this project.

  • Taumarunui Opportunity Shop Donation

      7 February 2020

The Taumarunui Opportunity Shop has donated a very generous $1,000 grant to re-roof the pool. This income would have come from sales of items between $1-$5 so represents a significant amount of voluntary labour. Thank you.

  • Feasibility study

      28 January 2020

The initial costs of the feasibility study can go towards the local contribution for outside funding. $5,500 was spent by the trust in first ascertaining the extent of the problem, secondly by establishing a solution and thirdly, costing that solution.

  • Large Private Donation Received

      21 January 2020

The challenge to re-roof the Trust Waikato has had an excellent start with a $3000 donation from an anonymous donor. They wrote:

We are supportive as we feel it is very important for local kids to learn to be as strong swimmers as possible. Time spent in recreation and work in and on the water is a large part of life in New Zealand. The pool is a wonderful community resource. Fun and exercise swimming for all ages and health needs, Swimming Club, learning to kayak plus many more activities.

Our children benefited when the pool was first built and now our grandchildren are involved, having had learn to swim lessons, lots of fun swimming and now giving lessons themselves and having work opportunities in the pool’s daily running.

This reduces the total required by the community at this stage to $123,200. The present roof has lasted some 30 years and trustees need the community to think long term when donating to this project.
