New Roof for the Taumarunui Indoor Pool

$2,570 of $27,700 goal
Given by 33 generous donors in around 7 months

We need to raise the first sliver of the total cost to replace our roof.

Manawatu / Whanganui

After solving many of the smaller maintenance issues associated with a community indoor heated pool, trustees have for the last two years, been planning for their greatest challenge to date.

Since the day it was constructed, chlorine from the indoor heated pool has been slowly dissolving the underside of the roof, to a point where the roof is now brittle and requires replacement.

Replacing the roof will cost $1,262,000. This includes enlarging the solar panel capacity that will reduce running costs into the future.

Time is ticking. The Taumarunui High School and Community Trust are applying for Lotteries Commission and Trust Waikato funding which, if successful, should cover 86.6% of the cost. The feasibility study has been paid for by the Trust, leaving just $126,200 to be sourced from the community before the 14th of June 2020 funding deadline set by the Trust Waikato.

The Trust has established this Givealittle page so that all past and present community-minded people of Taumarunui can contribute to this valued community asset.

Larger donors will also be required and anyone wishing to donate larger sums are encouraged to contact the Trust’s chair, Adie Doyle.

The pool is used by swimmers of all ages and from as far away as Piopio. This is a once in 30-year opportunity to contribute to a community asset that accommodates 18,000-20,000 swims per annum and enjoyed by all.

Large donors leading the way  7 May 2020

Our funding plan required some larger donors to come forward which they have. The rest is now up to you. The Rotary Club of Taumarunui, despite having to postpone their golf day, still raised $5,000 from local businesses. KCEPT has donated $5,000 and the local District Council has set aside $85,500 in future budgets should the re-roofing project proceed.

We started at $126,200 and we are almost there. Taumarunui and its surrounding area is under pressure at present. However, this is a project that should have a 30 or 40 year benefit to our community. The trust encourages as many people as possible to donate as much as possible before the deadline of 14 June. We will be competing for funding from other towns and cities so we must put our best foot forward.
